Future Technology Presents has released 1.5 X-RAYted, an audio-visual manual on DVD for drum track creation with FXpansion's BFD.

The approximately 2-hour female-voice-narrated tutorial DVD:

  • Offers illustrative answers to most FAQs while spreading light into the "dark corners" of BFD functions.
  • Provides solutions to "problem scenarios" by people who participated in BFD v1.5 beta testing since the very first builds.
  • Offers BFD solutions to people who make drum tracks as keyboard players.
  • Covers a set of suggestions on "multiple feature coordination" to use BFD as a Factory of Grooves.
  • Dissolves myths and misconceptions like "BFD is not good for metal or for electronic music".
  • Introduces a "3Dimensional Drum Placement" framework for mixing drums (for a variety of diversified music genres) via the help of BFD's multi-channel philosophy residing in the Bus Mixer.
  • Offers a specially designed Flash utility called SoundLab, a tool with an interface identical to BFD's kit piece selector; whereas clicking on a kit piece a special spectrogram shows the sound components of the selected kit piece. (Use SoundLab and you will eventually memorize the sound character of each kit piece, find out the problematic sound areas, as well as become aware of where and why you need to EQ etc. A preview of this tool is available (Flash).)
  • Proposes (via a "BFD Help Index in Examples" framework) ways for ultimate BFD hi-hat calibration and in general advises on how to tweak the "tough" knobs.
  • Shows how to "restore" a poorly recorded drum track by layering BFD samples onto real drum sounds and many more.

1.5 X-RAYted comes in DVD format - you need a DVD player to view the content. It is available at an introductory price of €29 (no shipping and VAT costs included) for the pre-order period, which runs until the end of November(ish). Pre-ordering brings additional benefits, such as extra presets.
