Input Monitor is a free Mac application that simply passes a selected input pair to an output acting as software monitoring. If you find yourself needing to open a DAW to listen to audio plugged into your soundcard inputs, the 'Input Monitor' is a lightweight alternative.
When opened it automatically begins monitoring the system selected input to the system selected output.
It was created to solve the issue with direct monitoring with a Steinberg UR22 mkii which is always dual mono.

This is a great free utility if you use monitor calibration software like Sonarworks Sound ID, enabling you to use the calibration on live audio input without needed to route it through a DAW. I can keep this utility running all the time as I work with my hardware, insuring that I'm getting the most neutral sound out of my speakers and headphones. This saves time as I'll need to do less corrective mixing and referencing later on.
