Tape It adds mixtapes to its music recording app in free update

Tape It launched version 2 of its music recording app. The free update introduces mixtapes, a simple way to group recordings together.

Founder Thomas Walther shares the team's experience in building this update:

The ability to group, tag or label recordings was the most requested feature since our launch five months ago. Getting it right, however, took a lot of experimentation. Many apps have features like folders, but people rarely use them.

As we learned, making such a functionality useful is all about the details. With this update, we now show for each recording in your library which mixtapes it has been added to. It sounds tiny, but makes a big difference: you can now instantly spot which of your recordings have been organised as you scroll through your recordings. For us, this small feature made the difference between not using mixtapes and using them all the time.

Tape It turns an iPhone into a stereo microphone that claims to record at vastly superior quality compared to existing recording apps that record in mono. The app is equally designed for recording as for organising, annotating, sharing and listening. Special emphasis was put on handling long songwriting and practice sessions, and on helping musicians find previous recordings in a continuously growing library.

Price: Free on the Apple App Store, with high quality stereo recording available for a $20 annual subscription.
