Sonarworks launches measurement based studio gear reviews

-

Currently there are no measurement based studio headphone review sites and objective reviews for studio monitors are very few, Sonarworks aims to correct this.

By using their expertise in acoustics the company has started reviews which incorporate both measurements and listening tests to generate useful pro-audio oriented content. Sonarworks reviews are done by measuring a piece of studio gear and then interpreting those measurements in a way that is relevant to studio engineers as well as other music production practitioners.

Studio headphone reviews consist of both taking their frequency response and harmonic distortion measurements which are then correlated with listening tests. Despite showing a deviation from the reference in the measurements, some kinds of distortion are more detrimental to the sonic performance than others. Sonarworks specialists find out what the reviewed headphone is good for and what to keep in mind when using it for critical applications.

With already two immensely popular studio headphones analyzed Sonarworks is about to release their first studio monitor review. Starting out with Yamaha HS5 the company has taken up to not only measure every speaker in an anechoic chamber, but also visit five different studios in which the speaker will be analyzed for its real world performance.

Every speaker frequency response measurement is done by the same Sonarworks Reference software which is available for everyone to try out. Hence every room measurement in a Sonarworks review can be directly compared to existing projects of every Sonarworks user. See how your speakers and room stack up to the studios Sonarworks have measured.

Full texts of the reviews complete with photos and measurement graphs can be found on the Sonarworks company website.
