G-Sonique has released PA Club SoundSystem Emulator, a VST plugin designed to help producers understand how their tracks will sound within large club environments. The plugin emulates not only the sound systems themselves but also the accompanying amplifiers, processors, and the typical DJ signal chain.
The plugin claims to address a hurdle in electronic music production. Music created for club playback can often sound dramatically different than when played back on home systems or studio monitors. Club sound systems operate at extreme volumes, and the acoustics of large spaces can significantly impact the listening experience.
If you produce electronic dance music, it's quite a problem. It should sound good in clubs and festivals. However, testing every mix and master in the club is very difficult and often impossible.
PA Club SoundSystem Emulator allows users to test their mixes and masters under simulated club conditions. This includes adjusting for distortion caused by both amplifiers and speakers, as well as the ability to adjust the input signal strength to mimic a DJ's mixing style.
