Any suggestions for what capsules to replace/which circuits to change? I don't want to buy a new mic and I already purchased this cheapo one.

Could you define "better"? What aspect of it is lacking the most?

There are cases where swapping the transistor (from a $0.10 model to a $5 model) or capacitors makes some difference, but tbh I don't expect a sub-$100 mic can be improved substantially with some simple DIY.

The circuit board is a little unusual too in that, other than two electrolytic capacitors, the circuitry is all surface-mount, and that includes the FET. This approach makes assembly very simple with the minimum of wiring, which helps to keep the price down, but may be less good news for those into doing mic mods.
You got beyond the first hurdle. With modding you run the risk of damaging it beyond repair, so you have to be prepared/willing to lose the patient in operation. Sounds like you cannot afford that.
