I want to play only two beats of my one-measure strum pattern for a G chord, then make the pattern start from the beginning again for the other two beats on an A chord. How do I make do that?

Just change chord G on 1st beat and A on 3th beat.

That easy - can't believe I didn't even try it. What about the other way around - if I wanted to play only the last two beats, would I have to cut it from a separate track?

You can copy the pattern to another one, and remove the first 2 beats.
