That being said, the sounds Simon designed for the factory bank are wonderful. So if you're flipping through presets and one of them puts a sh@! eating grin on your face...you're probably most certainly listening to a Simon Stockhausen joint

Yeah, most of the demos I've seen so far on YouTube don't even scratch the surface. In a lot of ways, Falcon reminds me of NI Reaktor. Falcon's architecture is deep...and I mean ABYSMAL. I can only imagine the things that are possible with external processing. The only real limitations are those imposed by your CPU. The trick is understanding the component hierarchy, so I definitely recommend downloading the manual and getting your arms around the structure before you even run the installer. I can see a lot of people giving up on Falcon before even really understanding how Falcon works and what makes it so revolutionary.Echoes in the Attic wrote:Oh i don't even have it yet! waiting on the transfer. I'm purely talking about all the demos and youtube videos out there demonstrating the different synthesis sections. I'm very impressed by the capabilities and i don't mind that the analog section sounds rather neutral and flat since i have plenty of characterful analog type sounds. i like your sounds, but i think is largely due to the granular engine which is a big selling point for me. if i like the analog and wavetable stuff, it'll be a nice bonus.Sound Author wrote:I hope you're not basing your opinion of the Analog and Pluck oscillators on the factory presets. In my opinion, the factory sounds are not a very good example of what's possible in Falcon. Also, you might want to consider the "Component Hierarchy", and how modulation sources and event processors interact with the oscillators. I was also disappointed with a lot of the presets, but then I realized that many of those sounds don't really take advantage of the component hierarchy in creative ways. Falcon would not be the first software instrument that turned out to be far more powerful than the sound designers who made the factory presets initially realized. I intend to begin work on a preset library that takes full advantage of the component hierarchy in a very holistic way. But, of course, it will take a minuteEchoes in the Attic wrote:As someone who has just purchased falcon second, I will also say that I also am not impressed by the sound of the analog section at all. I would actually agree that it sounds rather flat and boring. I'm not terribly impressed by the sound of the wavetable or pluck sections either actually. But I'm purchasing mainly due to the MPE functionality and granular/sampling capabilities. I'm sure I'll get lots of use out of the fm section as well. But who knows, if it doesn't jive with me then it might go up for sale again. Hopefully not. Looking forward to playing with it.

Falcon is a bottomless pit, period. I will never tap into all its potential no matter how long I dive into it. My sound library is over 600 presets and it doesn't even scratch the surface. The granular engine alone could keep you busy for years.Sound Author wrote:Yeah, most of the demos I've seen so far on YouTube don't even scratch the surface. It's the deepest synth i own, hands down. And yes, it can be intimidating.

What regarding new osc's pluck and wt, wt more liked me at moment (though not long time of use yet), though previously reading about both i assume that phis.mod. will be most of interesting in new features. Though i not want to say that he bad, interesting composite concept with sample and synthesis, but I was hoping that exactly synth part (in pluck) will be more varied (although I do not rule out that I'm still missing something).Echoes in the Attic wrote:As someone who has just purchased falcon second, I will also say that I also am not impressed by the sound of the analog section at all. In the same time WT immediately liked its sound and control, wonderful part of engine imo, but there is another small claim - mechanism (overal WT features) seems a simplistic a bit, would like to some more features here - i dont know, any additional morphing algorithms, or for example any wave editing features, something like that. But in any case i found his index transition in multi forms (with disable smoothing) and detune characters are excellent, it can build strong rough atonal textures, very cool.
And need to note, fortunately WT quite lightweight for cpu (even with increased unison) - here is portion of happiness.

, thank's - yeah that video is more about the Macro controls and the sound than the actual notes/music played, doing all of this live on video can be distracting...Sound Author wrote:Nice! That chord change at 2:00 was glorious

Nice one, highly enjoyed here! Did you ever think of a collab with Mr. Vollenweider btw...?Sampleconstruct wrote:Here is an extremely thin and boring track made with 100% Falcon sounds, it totally flat and extremely boring, and thin:

Not really, I liked his music during my adolescence but then lost track of what he does.

Anybody found a way to modulate an LFO speed with velocity? There seem to be some parameters missing when right clicking on LFO frequency. Velocity isn't mentioned there?
Thanks,
Jacob

Makes me Rise and Shine on a Monday morning - I love that kind of multiphonic /harmonic/overtone soundscape! Wonderful and Mesmerizing.Sampleconstruct wrote:Some new-age granular Falcon porn on a sunny Sunday morning
I'm always trying to do that with tuned delays or flangers. I've never worked with samples or granular before.
I'm just now working thru the LFO's and havn't seriously explored the Envelopes yet.
Thank you Sampleconstruct!

Try something simple for a start, create a not too short sample with a simple overtone melody played with whatever instrument/synth you have at your disposal, load that sample into the multi granular osc, use 4+ grain streams, set grain speed to 0, grain position to 50% (middle), apply a slow random&hold LFO (1-2 Hz) with some smoothing activated (400+ ms) to grain position (value around 0.30+), start increasing the grain spread parameter until the grains dance around the entire sample. Experiment with the other granular parameters like shapes, symmetry and so forth - apply some long delay tails with pitch modulation, add phasing, spark reverb, ring modulation, modulated filters -> have fun.

I really like Falcon here. It is incredibly deep and rich in sonic possibilities.

So I looked in the factory scripts and did not find the MPE script. Is this a separate download? I thought it came included.
Also I am noticing an issue with parameter names reported to the host DAW. It only seems to show 6 characters, so many parameters end up being called the same thing. For example I loaded a preset that has some macros, the first few being something like Voice 1 filter, Voice 1 Detune etc. All of these parameters when enabled show in bitiwg as simply "Voice 1" which doesn't make sense. Parameters need to be properly reported for automation etc.
