It's pricey but I am intrigued. Particularly interested in the world samples. From the demo they sounds so well recorded.

Is there much middle eastern stuff in there?

Turkish, Arabic, Greek, Hebrew?

Try http://www.sonokinetic.net. Excellent Middle Eastern vocal samples. Pretty reasonably priced.

I thought I still had my listings of all the patches and samples it came with, but I can't find it.
This package is so old, and I think all the non-phrases samples are in omnisphere......I am sure there are so much better products existing today.

edit:
actually the listing is online at spectrasonics

http://www.spectrasonics.net/products/l ... oland1.php

look at the right of the page and it has them by cd, akai and roland and each listings.

also
I've heard that some of the original Spectrasonics sample libraries are included with Omnisphere?
Yes! As a bonus, we've included the 'best of' our award-winning sample libraries, including Symphony Of Voices, Distorted Reality, Vocal Planet, Hans Zimmer Guitars and many others - please refer to the Reference Guide for a complete list. Keep in mind that the material used from the Sample Libraries are the most playable ones. Phrases and loops were excluded from the Omnisphere core library.

Neat, I didn't know that. Another reason for omnisphere then

If you are interested in Middle Eastern vocals and samples check out Best Service Alibaba or Orient Odyssey.
Spectrasonics Vocal Planet had it's charm back in the day when lounge / chill out/Buddha Bar was "in thing". Those days it was not unusual to hear the vocal samples in multiple tracks in Buddha Bar CDs. Another famous sample CD was "Heart of Asia". Quality of Spetrasonics sample is top-notch.

these samples cds are very very old. i don't know how they are compared to modern standards, but for sure akai-style samples are a bit out of date now.

i am extremely surprised by the price?? how could one still spend 400$ for a library so old?? also because omnisphere (just to name one!) cost less than this single 5-cd library! :O

i wonder why the old akai-sample cds are not offered now as a download-only version for an extremely low price. i'm sure there will be a lot of people that would buy these old titles for 30-40 $. effort should be almost zero and extre income for the developer should be almost sure.

I don't think I have ever seen a spectrasonics sale or price reductions.
I can't imagine anyone still buying these for $399, but I don't see spectrasonics thinking that is a problem and reducing the cost.

I recently picked up a rack-mount JV-2080 synth and 7 expansions, including the Spectrasonics Vocals, Asia, Orchestral 1 and 2, World, and Latin cards, all of which can still be found on ebay. Omnisphere does not have all these sounds, and along with Omnisphere, Trillian and Stylus RMX I figure I have a pretty complete Eric Persing library. The sounds and patches are superb, and I now have the ability to do complete acoustic / chamber / orchestral stuff that I was never able to quite realize with just Miroslav, Kontakt and Garritan. These sounds together are more broad and more playably useful than these other libraries imo., plus they include much more than just acoustic sounds. It's a bit of a pain to have to dial up the sounds via midi from SONAR, and to be limited to just stereo analog out, but I can work with that. The results have been really good.

The whole setup was about the same as a single expensive, narrow-focus library from 8Dio, LASS, etc. So I would say they're not for everybody, but still have a place.

Here are some tunes recorded with all or mostly Roland JV. All were for a custom Tomb Raider game (the original TR series used these sounds almost exclusively). The last one is entirely from the JV, and all are classic TR sounds, including the best oboe there is imo. Sorry there are no examples from the vocal card - I just got it.

Wow man very cool sounds. I will have to pick one of these up, seems to be what I was looking for, a way to get those really nice older sample libraries.

of course i don't expect them to reduce the price. but it would be a nice idea (for us customers!) :D

afaik most of these samples are incorporated into the Omnisphere library. I used quite a few for my Voxworks bank.

There's no doubt one of Omnisphere's strengths is the vox.

On the other hand, many JV-era sounds such as brass, strings, etc. are really mostly absent, and the patches from the JV synths are among the best I've ever heard on any synth from any era.

One thing I like that is more rare is solo vox (though Omnisphere has some nice classical ones). I find them more useful than choir vox, so I've started collecting some cheaper ones. I love Dream Voices for Alchemy, and Aliye from Sonokinetic. Check them out, you'll be glad you did.

if these libraries are in omnishpere, can someone understand why omnisphere costs 499$ and a single library (included, as i understand) 299-399$. which kind of marketing is this!?! :D:D

if omnispehere library is 40GB and the legacy cd-library (INCLUDED IN OMINPSPHERE!) are 2-3 GB... why would it not be reasonable to sell the old legacy library in AKAI/audio format and digital download version, for 40-50$ ?

;)

Post

Maybe in makes Omnisphere a steal.
maybe it makes the legacy library antiques.

maybe spectrasonics has no interest in ppl still buying those legacy cd libraries, and are trying to encourage ppl into buying omnisphere instead.
