As one of the earliest Tracktion users, back in the day, who eventually jumped ship when Mackie basically killed it, I was shocked and surprised to see a new announcement that Tracktion runs on linux, and then to realize that Tracktion is actually alive again!
Can someone give me a brief overview of where things are at? I'm going to download immediately and check it out on Mac and Ubuntu.
What can I do with my old Tracktion 2 license? Is there an upgrade?
So glad to see what was once hands down the best way to do DAW music back.
When did Tracktion come back to life?

Yeah, very cool, eh? They're still in the bug-stomping stage before focusing on adding new features, but in my case the current version is very stable. And the future looks very bright, something that would have been impossible to believe a few months back.

There were hints in the last few months of last year that a revival was happening, including posts on here from Jules. It all became official at NAMM 2013 on or around January 23rd+. If you look back at posts from then you should see how things progressed.
The revived prog is Tracktion 4 and incremental updates have been released since. The initial aim was to have stable versions running on newer hardware. This is still in progress. There was also a rewrite of the audio engine and there was a beta testing stage with this. All the early changes were issued for Windows 32-bit, 64-bit, and OSX at the same time.
Because Mackie had not developed the Tracktion code as Jules would have liked, he's had to fix and rewrite a lot of it.
The initial Linux release is 64-bit and aimed at recent Ubuntu. This might affect how you get on with it.
There are still problems that people are finding. Bugs are being reported and dealt with where possible (some plug-ins turn out to be bugged themselves). Some Mackie plug-ins don't work yet, possibly due to old code to prevent their use with other DAWs; this is being worked on.
There is an upgrade option from your T2. If you register at the Tracktion site (www.tracktion.com) with your MyMackie details you should be united with your T2 licence allowing you a half price upgrade. Note that the forum on there requires you to have a second user id and password.
The forum on there has two boards; one for current problems and one for suggestions for future enhancements.
