I am trying to loop record a few bars in reaper using midi. I want every Pass to just blend the new data into the same take instead of creating new takes each pass.

How do you do this again?

Thanks!

Right click the record arm button on the track and select 'MIDI overdub'. This overdubs into the same MIDI item, rather than replacing (adding takes) the MIDI item.

For loop recording, you can set a selection and turn on looping (toggle repeat button in transport). To do single pass punch ins, right click the record button on the transport, and select auto-punch.

My way around that is to create and use track templates. In this case, set the recording mode to 'MIDI overdub' and the track quantize to 1/16ths, and save that as a track template called 'MIDI'. One template for generic MIDI, another for ezdrummer configured to my liking. I then added a couple of buttons to the toolbar for inserting these as quickly as possible.

For the recording mode, you could set it to auto-punch, or whatever you like, save that as a project template, and set it as your default project template in preferences. I named mine 'Default' to eliminate any confusion.

is it possible to "save" or "export" tool bar settings like yours?

If you grab the Rado theme from the Reaper stash, not only is it a great theme, but it comes with an absolutely killer toolbar.

De nada - I just got in to Reaper a few months ago, and the more I learn, the more I like it.

Yes, if you right click in an empty area of the toolbar, the customization window will be opened. There are buttons there for importing and exporting. My toolbar has changed since this thread began, so I'm not sure if it would be useful to you, but I could send it to you any way.
