When I master my mixes, I bring into my DAW other professional tracks that have a resemblance the track I'm mastering, and compare. I began to master a track yesterday, and I brought into my DAW .

My TRackS metering plugin says this track is exceeding -7 RMS!

How is this track getting such a high RMS peak without sounding awfully squashed?
I'm struggling to get my current track above -9 RMS...

add 2db of gain?

more serious.. clean mixing will raise apparent loudness

I don't know which audio is on the video sound track. But it's awfully squashed.

why should you strive for that kind of loudness in the first place? use the volume knob, goddammit.

Sadly, if you want to get commercial, you cant let your track be quieter than others, people mistakingly will see it as lack of energy.

That Avicii track is difficult to listen to on headphones, it almost sounds distorted. I personally wouldn't use it for reference purposes.
