i fully expect to see a 10 piece live band when they tour (well one can hope)
here's a google translated mini review i did on my first real listen
Daft Punk RAM mini review, first listening with high frequencies (i listened to the stream once, but it sounded shit compared to the real deal, I preferred to wait until tonight)
give life back to music: the radio will love it
big fat drums, I love
the game of love: mmmm, pedal steel
hummm i would have avoided the vocoder (you could have a human for this one)
giorgio: masterpiece, nothing else to say on this one
within: what a beautiful transition from acoustic to electric
moment crush: it sounds like a pearl jam tune post vitalogy,
such a shame to have put an autotuned vocal so ugly on a beautiful track, beautiful passes after the middle, so would be able to clean a voice at the beginning instead of sounding like shit
Loose yourself: fat drums,
the vocal harmonies of the chorus are reminiscent of Opus: life is life,
beautiful solo vocoder
kraftwerk are with their vocoder harmonies on the disc (autobahn)
touch: is the pink floyd and tron in the intro
a penis has happened? lol,
my god the middle section with the brass is so 60's (sounds like it's from meddle or atom earth mother)
one of the best on the disc
get lucky: a club with tile floor illuminated
beyond: the intro sounds like the soundtrack of a pirates movie in technicolor
always beautiful vocoder, but it become boring always the same sound carrier
this is the beautiful pedal steel
motherboard: mmmm, an orchestra
genial
wow really just track the coast, also in my best
and drums with percussionist, fat groove
fragments of time: pure 1970's with some pretty nifty y2k slicing of the audio tracks
oh yeah! talkbox solo!
doing it right: Yee a 2nd vocoder sound
ha ha, an 808 (first track with beatbox)
natural voice I imagine four guys following white barber shop style lol (or new kids on the block lol)
Contacts: So like the crew of Apolo 11 sees UFO
beautiful sound moog, wendy carlos would be proud
rock on! bitch!
what a final!
stray observations:
I understand the title, it really is full of memories and random references
Finally, a daft punk album we can play at a family dinner lol
these drummers are tight (it's worth a lot to all tracks)
at least 5 radio hits, and 4-5 tunes for less radio loving peeps like me, really, just one song i find really bad(and it would be great if it wasn't for the shitty autotune job(i think it's melodyne, i heard some revealing artifacts)
I feel we will see a resurgence of music with music and instruments in the coming months, ca can not be bad
good mastering, not tiring to listen, super good dynamic compared to everything that is out those days
final verdict of the first listening: 8/10 and it's going to play in my bus commute often, especially the instrumentals

not in the daft punk fanbase, no, that's my point, it will open a shitloads of kids to real human played music, and since it's from their idols, they will probably embrace it way more than some generic pop indy wannabe like the black key or somethingdayjob wrote:Muzik 4 Machines wrote: I feel we will see a resurgence of music with music and instruments in the coming months, ca can not be bad

I don't like the album, and this album is pop-oriented than ever. Production is excellent, but writing is meh.
Real funk has been with dance-punk for a while now, and I'm afraid the album misses a lot of points. That's the cool "indie music" to listen to.
And I don't know a lot of kids with Daft Punk as their idols. If you think about it, as an album, Homework and Human After All are bit of outliers to be mainstream. Lot of people will disagree with me, but not many kids would listen to Homework and think it is good in current-EDM sense.

I agree. This was my point in the other thread. I WISH that it were not true and that it would be more influential. Not because I think that dance music should sound like that but that I think the raw elements and sound could drive a groove focused period.schnapsglas wrote:I don't like the album, and this album is pop-oriented than ever. Boring and bland album.
For me the key to judge this album is to forget that it's a daft punk album, imagine that it's just a no-name artist album. Will your review still be that good? Not for me.

It reminds me of a Joan Armatrading album that I picked up from a clearance bin once. I wasn't that impressed with the songs but the production was so good that I kept listening to it, eventually it grew on me and I still like the album. It has, in fact, become one of the records that I put on to judge headphones and speakers.xamido wrote:Boring and bland album.

I dunno, I don't like it, but, I don't think that I'd believe that the sound came cheap if I heard it at random.

"cover by vladimir"
I think it sounds better than the actual track he covered.. Actually I was hoping to hear more music like this cover on the album...
I think this album won't be a 'hit' on it's own... but rather it will spawn a lot of remixes and cover work.. probably a lot of sampling into other tracks too..
Super tight for live setup though.. I wonder how many takes they had while recording each track??

so, you're saying the daft punk fan base is a bunch of narrow minded people who don't listen to other kinds of music and wait to see what daft punk will do because it's some kind of watershed moment?Muzik 4 Machines wrote:not in the daft punk fanbase, no, that's my point, it will open a shitloads of kids to real human played music, and since it's from their idols, they will probably embrace it way more than some generic pop indy wannabe like the black key or somethingdayjob wrote:Muzik 4 Machines wrote: I feel we will see a resurgence of music with music and instruments in the coming months, ca can not be bad

that's just ridiculous... regardless of what anyone thinks of this record it's just silly to say that daft punk fans aren't gonna embrace music played by musicians until daft punk says it's OK.
daft punk are really really popular. they sell millions of records and tons of people go to their shows.. i'd bet you it's more than safe to say that any reasonable chunk of daft punk fans listen to all kinds of stuff from the beatles to green day to my morning jacket to metallica to elton john to all kinds of hip hop to everything in between.
it's not like daft punk fans haven't been exposed to every mainstream everyone else has w/in reason.. and they go around only listening to daft punk
i think what you are saying is lot's of daft punk fan boys who are also musicians and producers might take this album as the start of some kind of trend and think it's cool and sell their old akai samplers and alesis 3630 compressors and go buy guitars and wah pedals and commence making shitty 70s style disco wankery???
or am i just way off the mark w/what you were expressing?
anyway.. i disagree
