I'd like to buy a good VA and I'm looking for this two. What would be you suggestions between these two? Thank you.

P.S: also there has been rumors that Halion 4 synth has the same audio engine as Retrologue. Can anybody confirm it?

since i don't have waves elements i can only comment on retrologue. it sounds great, it is cheap and the cpu consumption is extremely low for the sound quality. since a few days there is also a nice soundset focused on classic synth sounds from the 70ties, 80ties and 90ties. and yes, it has the same sound engine as halion 4 but with a much more user friendly interface. from my point of view: highly recommended :tu:

I'm demoing Retrologue here and it sounds really good, nice low end in it. But which one is more versatile sound-wise, which has a better filters?

I prefer Retrologue a lot. Element sounds pretty flat and digital to me. Retrologue has much more analogue feel and charm.

After demoing Retrologue, I thought it was bland and flat sounding, much like Arturia synths.

Think outside the box, get Sawer ;)

Another vote for Retrologue. Thought about purchasing for a while and bought it yesterday. :)

Hmm, pretty different opinions here.

TAL Noisemaker.

Ok, just been demoing Element and I prefer Retrologue sound better. It has better envelopes and punchier sound. And unison is really fat comparing to Element. IMO.

And to answer your other question: Yea, Halion 4 does have the same VA engine as Retrologue or vice versa. Can't tell you the differences, if any, though.

I don't know if you like other recommendations, beside those 2.

Well, i'm trying to keep the price range of 50-100 Euro. But now if Halion has the same engine, then i have to rethink a bit. As i see Halion has an extended VA structure: Two filters, more LFOs and so on. And i can get it for 130 Euro with the educational discount.

Sawer is a nice offer as well, i will demo it as well, but it's not as versatile sound-wise as others.

One of the main reasons for me is also Retrologue's simplicty and GUI. Sure, a dedicated mod envelope would be nice, but the combination of sound and few controls (+ I like to look at it) adds up.

I still can't work out if I like Element or think it's useless. I'm tending towards the latter but... meh

Retrologue is great fun to play and program. It's quite clean and linear sounding to my ears, so there aren't the emergent properties you might find with UNO-LX V2, Diva and the ilk, but if you warm it up with post FX it can sound pretty analog. The highpass filter and 6db lowpass sound great too.

the trick is to ALWAYS demo things yourself. EVERYONE has an opinion, and, as is the joy in these forums, everyone's opinion is different. check them out, decide for yourself...
