Toneboosters Reelbus

I've had a bit of a sell off of plugins I wasn't using, trying to pare my system down and work with less vst plugins rather than more. I wasn't using my TB stuff and thought about selling it but the price of them makes it hardly worthwhile selling. So, I had another go at using Reelbus on my groups (I didn't like it some months back so never bothered to use it again) and, either my hearing has changed or the updates have done something, but I much preferred it over Kramer MPX which is what I had loved before. It was more subtle but made a sweet difference to the sound. The song I am working on is a different style to what I have been doing and that may be part of why I prefer Reelbus at the moment, but I have to say Reelbus certainly is good in this song.

Theo, how long ago did you try Reelbus? Because the newest tape models "Glue" and "Smooth" take this plugin to another level, IMHO. I sometimes prefer these models to VTM ... they seem to give a nice sheen to the track. I haven't tried UAD Ampex, but from what I've read, it does a similar thing. If anyone has compared these two plugins (Reelbus vs. Ampex) head-to-head (so to speak!), let's hear your findings.TheoM wrote:The reelbuss didn't work for me, and I think it may be because I was comparing it to VTM and noticed the massive difference in quality.

ReelBus is probably the most "can't live without" plug-in in my arsenal. I simply love it. It's instant sweetening for me. I like the "Glue" and Japanese 7.5 IPS models, with loads of tape hiss along. The latter just needs to be tamed a bit with overbias / spectrum / saturation, unless the "drastic" coloration is your thing, which it is for me mostly.
Using the circuit clip to extremes on something like a 606 / 707 kit is another lovely use for it.

The song I used it on has old style cocktail drums, thick sounding bass, piano and guitar (all software instruments) and when I remove reelbus the mix becomes lifeless, lacking energy. Reelbus adds fullness overall and clarity to piano and guitar. Kramer was too over the top for this song.

I compared them once on the master buss considering the price difference i didn't find the Uad so bigger sounding it sounds a bit more fatter (But is Ampex emulation so it makes sense the device is fat in it's nature) , but reel buss is really nice one as well, i remember when i was demoing the VTM and didn't impress me that much again considering what cpu hog is it. Reelbus have some models very nice for mastering without to cut so much the high freq content, with proper tweaking can go very well ..Eddie TX wrote:Theo, how long ago did you try Reelbus?
