Thats a very good point, I was interrested in buying Goldbay MPC Vol 2 Vynal but since it is sampled from old vynal is this ok to use?

well it's up to you, and it depends on what you're using it for. for most music, this is totally fine, and to most people including myself, it's fine. but to some other people who don't realize, it's a problem.

goldbaby is also good because he charges reasonable prices for his samples, so if down the line you find that this isn't for you, you aren't out too much. he also is up front with the fact that they come from records for this particular library.

you have to keep in mind that the sound of this generation, especially in regards to the drums, is the sound of old records. people who record acoustic kits fresh have a difficult time acheiving this sound, although the producers like the Dap Kings and Mark Ronson have come oh so close.

it's a sticky subject with these sample cds. in a case a few years ago, one sample cd had a drum beat on it that ended up in a tv commercial. someone came forth and said the drums were sampled from his instructional drum series and ended up suing the company who had the ad made, the composer, and the sample manufacturer.

whether or not it was true is a different story, and the person who made the sample cd claimed it was done in Reason and the claim was preposterous. i'm not sure what the outcome of it all was, but the cd was removed from the market.

Dusted William has an amazing set at the moment, I like PeaceLoveProductions stuff but dont really hear about em much on here!
Good point. I was going to say that one should stick with "brand names," but that really leaves out those who are not well known but have done some excellent stuff. I think the worry over getting sued for misuse or lack of payment up front is largely misplaced. That is, one reads about the worst case scenarios, but in reality most samples in music are never discovered, for any number of reasons but most often because the works they're in are well under the radar.

You can always ask about the "Terms of use" or the "Terms and Conditions" of a developper. Some are even available on the developper's web site. So there should be no surprises.

BTW, I mentioned eSoundz because I've bought and used samples from them. I've a lot of respected friends at KVR and elsewhere who make and sell (or give away) sample libraries that I'm sure are superb too. I didn't mention them because I don't have first-hand experience with their goods.

One other mention: I've never heard a bad Hauptwerk sample library. That might just be my enthusiasm for pipe organs speaking. They're made by various (mostly or all rather small) concerns but I think the ones I've heard demos of are of excellent quality.

True that. Got a ton of stuff from them, I like the combination of quality with good choice of products they do samples for which allows for quick and friendly workflow for me at least.

Also, I find I'm buying second most from Precisionsound. They are one of those companies that I want to succeed but secretly want to keep to myself ;)

Definately not me...

But I will say that quite a few other retailers have lost sales from me by having absolutely aweful demos. No self respecting preset developer here would post demo songs with extensive editing and effects, but unfortunately, I've seen lots of sample developers have demo songs with loads of content in the song that wasn't from the libraries, like a piano library demo with every other instrument thrown in to the mix, for example. I mean, if i am looking for drum loops I don't want to hear someone's crap pop rock song that's been EQ'd, compressed and mastered (badly!). It's stupid.

I'd like to say that I do like Spectrasonics stuff. Ace quality.

Cheers.
