Funny that people should compare Twin to a Minimoog, because one of the things that thrilled me about Twin was that one of the filters (can't remember which one now, but not the default One) had the exact characteristics needed to recreate a sound from my JX-3P that no other synth I've tried -- virtual or hardware -- could do.

I bought Twin during the Xmas sale because I liked the sound, the programming method (modulation especially), and the interface and I got Timeless, my only non-free softy plugin delay-thing, in one of the package deals. Then Alchemy came out and my attention got diverted. I went nuts and bought too many things at once during all the holiday sales - I held my GAS in too long and let it out all at once - attention overload even for a two-week holiday vacation (now over).

But do you think if FabFilter called Twin a Moog emulation you would fall for it?
It would make me run a mile from it. I still dislike most Moogs intensely. I also associate them with the worst of progrock jazz-solo synth wankery. Give a keyboard player a Moog and he instantly starts wanking up and down the scales on it playing meaningless drivel. I really don't know why - Moogs are capable of playing the odd nice sound but all that comes out of them is wankery. :?

As to Twin being a Moog - strange sentiment IMO. They're obviously completely and utterly different synths. Twin is capable of subtlety, whereas Moogs generally just bash their way through any mix quite hideously (and I like big character analogues). Moogs always sound thick and dull to me. I'm sure you can make Twin sound thick and dull, but that's not what I'd call its tendency or flagship sound character. Ultimately I didn't buy it because I already have an MS20, and Twin seemed to be trying to emulate that Korg MS type filter sound. To my ears, it just sounded like a bit of overdrive stuck on top of a normal filter. It has no life and sounds very static to me...although it's an improvement on most even more lifeless s/w filters, I admit. I should like Twin - I thought I would, but the squelching filter really sounds static to me - far too perfect every time. Something about it screams digital to me even though they tried to veer away from the usual digital filter sound. It can be done - Korg and GMedia have made filters with life and movement in them. ImpOSCar is extremely musical and fluid. I think fluid is the word - Twin doesn't sound very fluid to me. Dunno why I don't like it as much as I should...I do like some s/w filters. That ABLPro thing - love it. Twin has all the capabilities I want from a synth, but somewhere falls flat for me...
