I have seen some iPod Touch apps for music. Are any useful or just fun? iDrum looks cool.
How do they work with your desktop apps? Can you render wavs or mp3s, or do you record from the headphone jack?

iDrum is pretty cool, and worth the 5 bucks, but it is limited compared to BeatMaker.
BeatMaker is more expensive ($20) but you can do loads more with it.
It exports WAV and MIDI, and you can create your own kits.
It is also being updated frequently, and the latency I first encountered with it is all but gone.
I use them with the iphone, but I assume they are available for the touch?

So far everything I read says they will work on the Touch. You might get some extra features on the iPhone, like creating ringtones.

This is more what I am looking for. It is an actual synth rather than drum machine.

I tried these out and they are really nice if you want an XY controller or a small keyboard. The free version has enough features, but the full versions seem worth the $5.

Not a bad little gadget really. Better than Band which has real latency problems.

I'd love to be able to use my Touch as a controller; stop, start and record from across the room. Wrestling a guitar or bass on the other side of the room isn't much fun when you make lots of mistakes and have to re-record. Decent workout, though.
the old free version may not work boots successfully on new generations of computers, instruments, and hardware
