Achieving best possible workflow

Wasn't sure about which forum to put this in..

Anyways, just wanted to hear your opinions about how to maximize the workflow, i e how to eliminate all potential stumbleblocks when translating an idea into music.

This could be things like how to best name/categorize samples so that they can be found quickly, setting up "work templates" in your sequencer for certain types of music, what part of the song to write first.. all ideas would be interesting to read.

For me, Ableton Live 4 has really worked wonders for speeding things up, but I am sure you all have different experiences.
