AmpCraft - 1992 represents the first in a new line of amp modeling plugins from Kazrog. It is an emulation of a legendary high gain tube amplifier used on countless albums and tours. The plugin also includes 4 overdrive pedal emulations, a noise gate, as well as a dual-channel IR loader with EQ and speaker dynamics emulation, with a selection of Recabinet impulse responses (IRs.).

Features:

  • Highly accurate, touch sensitive emulation of the famous American "block letter" high gain tube amplifier, known for its crushing lead channel.
  • Higher-headroom clean/crunch channel than the hardware - enjoy sparkling true clean and mid-gain tones with no fuss, for versatile use across many musical genres outside of hard rock and metal.
  • 4 overdrive pedals:
    • 808 - Based on the latest, limited boutique Japanese "808" pedal with handpicked vintage ICs, this is a smooth overdrive that sculpts attack beautifully all the way from blues to metal.
    • 66 - Based on the modern boutique EQ/boost pedal made famous by one of the most influential Swedish metal bands.
    • Stockholm - Based on the legendary Japanese-built pedal known for its buzzsaw distortion that became a staple in the early Swedish deathmetal scene.
    • Djrive - Based on the modern boutique overdrive pedal that has become an industry standard tool of the modern prog metal scene, this model has selectable voicings that make it useful in a variety of tunings for precise adjustment of picking attack response.
    • Noise gate - the G8 pedal model is based on a popular single-knob noise gate pedal that has been fine tuned for the needs of the modern metal player.
  • 2 channel Cabinet IR loader with the following features:4 included Cabinet IR packs from the Recabinet - Remastered collection, with 8 mic models on each cabinet.
    • 1960 4x12 - Based on the legendary modern British 4x12.
    • Green 4x12 - Based on the legendary vintage 70s British 4x12.
    • Oversize 4x12 - Based on an American oversized Baltic Birch 4x12 cabinet.
    • Tangerine 4x12 - Based on a modern British cabinet known for a classic-style voicing and colorful design.
  • Variable blending - psychoacoustically level matched in the center position.
  • 4 band EQ.
  • Speaker dynamics control.
  • Stereo Panning (when used in a stereo instance).
  • Adjustable short delay (useful when mixing IRs from different makers, to account for phase discrepancies.).
  • Solo and phase reverse toggles.
  • Oversampling - up to 32x.
  • Standalone app version included (version 1.0.1 and later).

I owned an original 5150 amp (still kicking myself for selling it back in the day) and this one sounds and feels just like the real deal. I used both my favourite set of custom IRs (most of us will have theres by now) and also a few I made from my own 5150 cab (Sheffield speakers) and the sim worked great with all of them.

How you can give this a 1 star rating is beyond me ?!?

It can use a lot (!) of CPU if you set the oversampling to extremes but if you want it to be less demanding just use less when recording and push it to the limits when mixing;-). There's even an option for 32x oversampling (maybe best used for printing single tracks before mixing).

Yes, the grafics are basic (I would prefer to say "functional") and it can improve on a few things like more options with the gate, added delay and reverb pedals and a better interface for the IR screen (hence my 4/5 rating) but the main things - the sound and feel - are up to par with the big players on the sim market.

... and I'm an addict - I own most of them;-).

btw: One of my main want-tos with this was a standalone version but I found out that it works perfectly in SaviHost.

Thanks.

We've just posted the 1.0.1 update, which adds a standalone app version. :).

One of the best emulation of the first generation 5150 by peavey... The UI is minimalist and straight to the point.. The tone, and most important, feel, is like playing any great 5150 in a studio somewhere and listening back in the control room..

There is a dual IR loader with the basic console EQ you would expect to find.

There is 4 pedals included, a TS808 with handpicked chip, a precision drive, a HM-2 and a 33 clean boost pedal.

It stands very well when compared to any great modern recent ampsim, there wasn't any that modeled every aspect of the amp (channels, knobs, saturation).

I've heard it will evolve quite a bit with time based pedals and more intuitive speaker simulation..

The major point is Kazrog is an expert when it comes to any kind of distortion / saturation aspect and this is the fruit of 2 years of intense research and comparision to the next-gen competitors... If he released it he knows this brings something new to the amp simulator market..

It can be CPU intensive if you use too much oversampling, the performance level is about average with any top tier simulator.

My demo experience was pretty disappointing, hard to tell something good about this plugin. Gui does not look good, especially the younger generation makes music with eyes! There are a lot of way better plugins available, even freebies.

Sorry you had a bad demo experience, but thank you for taking the time to check it out.

I'm actually quite surprised that you would reach this conclusion, as this plugin was tested extensively against the analog hardware, competing plugins, as well as popular hardware digital modelers. I'm confident that AmpCraft - 1992 contains the most accurate emulations of all hardware represented within.

The beta team had a very positive reaction, as have the vast majority of users, so I'm actually curious as to your signal path and monitoring setup when using the plugin, as those variables can create very different impressions of sound in ways you may not expect.

In particular, you may want to have a look in the manual about input level setting, as that is crucial to getting the proper response from the plugin. If you need further assistance, we actually do provide support for demo users via our support ticketing system.
