Microphone Quality in Waveform

Hi all,

I have been recording vocals for a song, but the quality is always very bad, like its from a headset microphone. However, when I use the same mic on a seperate DAW (BandLab, it may have something do to with it) it sounds very fresh and clean. What is the issue, and how can I resolve it? I am using the standard mic that comes with the Focusrite Scarlett Studio Solo pack.

addition 1: I used a random audio recorder online just to see whats up. it sounded okay, in the middle of both. its much clearer than waveform (waveform 12, free) but it isnt as clear as bandlab.

More info about exactly what you've done and how your system and the two DAWs are set up is required, otherwise we'd just be guessing.

i don’t really know how to explain how i have it set up, i’m just plugging the microphone in to the focusrite, and recording the audio. tracktion is locally downloaded to my computer, but bandlab is a website.

Mac? Windows? Waveform version? USB mic? XLR input? Line input?

How is your audio interface set up in Waveform?
Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and even Deezer, whatever the hell Deezer is.

ohh, that's what you mean.

I use waveform 12 Free for windows, the microphone that I use is an XLR input.

Post

are you sure you selected the focusrite for your input? from the way you describe the results, it sounds like you may have been recording using your laptop microphone.

Post

yes, the focusrite is selected for the input. i can assume the audio device type may be wrong? i currently have it as "windows audio" although "windows audio (exclusive)" may change how it sounds.

Post

have you tried switching to use the ASIO driver for the focusrite?

also: i use Windows Audio (Low Latency Mode) in Tracktion.

Post

the ASIO usually gives me problems. I just tried to use it, but for some reason it keeps telling me there is no ASIO device to connect to, so I don't know why that is.

Also: I tried Low Latency. it still sounds like a headset microphone.

Reinstall (or install) Focusrite drivers (or Focusrite Control) so you ensure the ASIO drivers are in place. There's more than one generation of Scarlett Solo Studio so get the right one.
