Hi. I was wondering, does the Windows version support WinMM, a.k.a. MME, a.k.a. the Windows Multimedia API?

The reason I'm asking is that I'm looking for a replacement software synthesiser since I'm not 100% happy with my current one which will remain nameless. The thing is, I've got some software tools I'm happy with and want to keep using, and they all use WinMM as their interface to talk to the MIDI synthesiser driver.

Over the years, I've grown a bit weary of just installing software to try it out, and I no longer want to just do that unless I feel there's a reasonable chance of it working.

MME is not an audio driver, I don't know where you got that idea. It's an interface for programs to talk to synthesisers (whether software or hardware) and other multimedia drivers. I gather from your reply that your synthesiser isn't compatible with WinMM and that you haven't got the expertise to make it work. Furthermore, your suggested elastic-band-and-tape workaround sounds complicated and potentially unreliable to me; I don't want to have to deal with that kind of mess. I will not be considering your synthesiser.

The term MME is widely described as a built-in Windows sound driver.
Don't start a discussion about how a driver is different from an API, because it's meaningless in the current context.

sweetwater.com wrote:Abbreviation for Multimedia Extension, a driver for the Windows operating system that enables certain audio or video functions. The MME drivers were invented by Microsoft with the not very well known operating system called “Windows with MultiMedia Extensions 1.0″ that was based on Windows 3.0 and was the base for later released Windows 3.1 and 3.11. The name of the OS (“MultiMedia Extensions”) was also used for the API (Application Programming Interface) to access soundcards.

1. It is not my synthesizer. I do not own ZynAddSubFX, nor am I part of the official development team.

2. You are not doing me a favor by trying out the software.

3. You are in no position, on this or any public forum, to be making any judgement regarding my technical expertise.

Stop acting as if any of the above 3 were otherwise true!
