Hi guys, many people download my software at nuton.ca, and I get something like 10 viruses a day in my inbox. So I guess some of you guys need some clean-up on your computer.

I have wrote an article on the suject:

Do you find that your computer is running slower and slower, day after day? This article will try to help you to improve its performance. When you make music with your computer, you need to take advantage of all the power that sits on the CPU (main processor). You have paid big $ for your computer, and you probably don’t use all the super horsepower available.

From his site:
Throw away Windows 98 and Windows ME.
Windows 98 and Windows ME are simply the worst operating systems ever made. They are a pure nightmare for you. They are unstable, insecure, incompatible and out-dated. Get Windows XP home edition or get a Mac. If you plan to make music seriously, you can’t live with Windows 98/ME.

Huh!

Anyone with any sense would not have a daw connected up to the internet in the first place. :-o
With the cost of components these days it is a very realistic proposition to build a small cheap computer just for the internet. All you need is a base unit and a splitter so you can use just one keyboard/mouse and monitor.

One of the simplest ways to stop spyware is to not to accept cookies. It also helps with virus problems too. Also dont use the wab or outlook/outlook express as they are the first items to get targeted.

I am still running my daw with win98se and with no problems. It is just a daw with only music apps on it however. I have xphome, but uninstalled it as it was too bloated and slower. :o

And finally, run you scanner every day and defrag once a week.

If it aint broke ....etc!

DAW stand for Digital Audio Workstation.

Having a non-connected computer makes it very complicated to download updates, activate software, and post to kvr!

If you know a bit how the computer works, you can easily avoid most of the crap out there. But you guys are smart. You don't know how many people are currently wondering why their home-page always change to a porn site, and why casino popups shows up when they connect. And why their computer takes minutes to boot up.

What I can say is, it is very feasable and practical to have a do-it-all computer. But you got to follow the rules.

(And for those running Win98, you just don't help the software developers out-there. Wondering why Cubase SX didn't initialy release for 98? Because it would have take a few more months of development just to "make it work under 98". Instead, they have concentrated on nice features. Please, stop using it! Windows XP is not slower, it just requires more memory. It's actually faster, for the same processor speed, with enough memory.)

fake,

You make a pretty bold statement.

Why don't you talk to some of the developers that have their machines hooked up to the net? I pretty sure thay'd like to know why you think that they don't have any sense.

In our studio we have net access on all 6 of our machines and have never had an issue. We have a old P III 550 set up as a hardware firewall and it works just fine.

decasteljau,

You are correct in that it does make it harder to deal with many of the issues that often arise without net. The idea of not having net access on your machine is antiquated, the rational is there but the reasoning dates back to the days of Win 95/98.
