Here's my OSC track made in Bitwig with 21copies of Audible Planets making all the sounds.

Did you make this with MIDI, and bounce to audio to make samples?

He will have done it with MIDI and then rendered the complete project out to a stereo master and uploaded that to SoundCloud.

Rendering MIDI to samples is not allowed, you can however render a complete track (ie from time 0.0 to end) as a stem track (ie audio) but still within the project in order to save on cpu. AKA freezing, so that the MIDI is then not processed by the synth again.

The usual thing people do wrong is to create a single kick on their MIDI editor (piano roll or whatever), then feed that to the synth and save that resulting waveform (ie "sample") and then cut and paste that audio clip down the time line to create the kick drum track. Usually done to avoid any triggering/phase etc inconsistencies due to the synth design. This is just not allowed at all, and if their are inconsistencies in the kick sound, you have to live with it.

Also, in this synth where the is a sampler, you can not use this sampler either. The other rule about samples kicks in when it's a wavetable synth, and again, you are not allowed to import a sound as a wavetable and then simply play that back - that's basically sampling! You can use single cycle waveforms in these synths to impart interesting and useful nuances into the calculated sound.

Hope some of that makes sense.

He used no samples. To synthesize a snare drum you usually take a sin wave and pitch shift it down along with using a bit of noise. In this synth the noise source is hiding in the corner on the Aux page. Kick drum is similar but deeper and less/no noise. There are many things you can do make it metallic. With FM you can get metallic by changing the fine tune between modulators/operators (oscillators) or you can use a really fast delay time or the ring modulator. Also waveshaper I guess.

Lots of people synthesize excellent percussion in the OSC.

I am loving my own percussion this month btw. Closest to Skinny Puppy I've ever come.

its all midi, i didn't even freeze any tracks at the end, just lived with the stuttering whilst i finalised a few things.

as others have said thankfully AUX has noise allowing some easier drum sounds.

That should at least allow you to select different waveshaper function types and different compressor types on the Effects page. I'm sorry to hear about UI issues in Bitwig. I've been testing with Logic, Live, and Reaper. In the DAWs I'm familiar with, it's always possible to run the plugin without the GUI window running once you've set it up how you'd like. This might be a good idea if you're running multiple instances at once.

Best of luck.

EDIT: Also, feel free to report any issues here and if I can fix them quickly, I'll try to do so!
I'm pretty desperate because I just can't find a solution to the problem I have with the synth when I use more than 8 instances. When I load too many tracks of the synth, I get the following message:

"The large number of plugins in this project means you are close to running out of graphics recources (GDI handles). Please remove some plugins from the projekt to avoid crashes."

A further explanation can be found here: https://support.image-line.com/action/k ... e/?ans=685

I can live with a crash, I think to myself. The project is saved automatically every 5 minutes. But the problem is much more serious. If the program crashes, which fortunately only happened once, or I save it at the end, I simply can't load it again afterwards. FL Studio hangs during the loading process without telling me why.

If I load an earlier version with fewer tracks, it works, but not always. Sometimes like this, sometimes like this.

I tried to trick it a bit by deleting the VST3, opening the project (which it does without any problems!) and then putting the synth back into the folder. After the plugin scan, I can use the synth again. Unfortunately, all the linked automations are lost, which is only half the solution, as I have basically automated every single instance with various, sometimes complex modulations.

I was very happy with the result yesterday, but I can now only use one version in which half of it is missing.

ADDENDUM!

Because the problem has left me no peace and I really like the synth, I went in search of a solution.

And I found one. I have to say, however, that this required an intervention in the system (Windows), which can lead to undesirable side effects such as crashes. Please do this at your own risk and don't hold me responsible if something goes wrong. If you are unsure, don't do it!!!

You can find instructions here (a translator in your browser is helpful if you don't understand German ;): https://support.vertigis.com/hc/de/arti ... I-Objekten

Of course I hope AudiblePlanets can offer a more elegant solution by the time they read this, but for now it works for me.

So, weiter machen... :phones:

This is my submission.
KVR OSC183 Audible Planets
53 instances of Reaper 7.1
Lots of ReEQ, Raum, ReaLimit, OTT.
Some A1TriggerGate, kiloheartz transient shaper, Supermassive Valhalla, CocoaDelay. Bit of sidechain with TDR Nova.

I really like this synth. Only issue I had was it would pause for a couple minutes or so at the beginning and end of rendering. Very happy with the sound though and think this is my best OSC entry.

also, I think listing itch.io gamejams is a great idea.

I'm all for musicians knowing they are needed. Instead of devaluing themselves and/or begging for moot attention. So listing the contests is a great, great addition to each month's page.

Nerd alarm! I've tried out the repeat mode of the envelopes.
Setup example:
1. Keep only OSC 1 volume, all others go to zero
2. Dial in fast attack and fast decay , no sustain and no release ... it should be only a little "impulse"
3. Set env to repeat mode "free"
4. Set time to about a second ... could may be somehow reflect the tempo of your song.
5. Set the mod wheel to decrease the repeat time down to "zero".
6. play a single note and slowly, very slowly open the mod wheel

Result:
It starts with impulses becoming more dense but very quickly it becomes a weird noise and a "tone". Just try it out. Combine with different FX ...
You can set the "curve" of the mod wheel to repeat time modulation in the nod matrix to "quadratic in" ... it helped a little to not go to fast into the chaos

Mind your ears. Use a Limiter! Use a Equalizer to cut the highs ... you gonna get plenty of them above 14khz when you open the mod wheel.
