How do I stop Audacity scanning plugins on startup?

I just don't want it to scan any in the first place. It used to be possible to turn VST off completely. The scan takes forever, this is meant to be an app to open and use quickly.

Quick Google search suggests that it isn't possible indeed.

With the current 64 bit build it scans commonfiles/vst3 and your default vst2 64 bit path. You'd have to go to the trouble of renaming your folders, then open Audacity.

With 32 bit Audacity its a folder right next to the main audacity folder called "plugins". You just install or drag them in and out of there.

But yeah I haven't seen either version with a choice of where you'd like the scanning to occur.

I had this issue too. You cant. It was some months ago, i had to install an older version and it stopped. I need to check later which i installed. I expected they released a new version already which fixed it. So annoying.

i kicked it from my system. its 2024, you can´t even custom the vst folder...geezes
