I'm working with Falcon Air, the Guitar patches, are there any demos that show them off? I'm getting the idea the percussive trash guitar intrigues.. Actaully the whole Guitar group is so new and interesting I'll be spending a good chunk of time exploring them..

Sure, guitar demos are here, the trash guitar is somewhere buried in the other demos, but here are some dedicated guitar only ones:TwoToneshuzz wrote:I'm working with Falcon Air, the Guitar patches, are there any demos that show them off? This is the weirdest funeral march I've heard in my life, I imagine a group of zombies walking in a procession to the grave of their king...TwoToneshuzz wrote:Here's another track using sounds exclusively from the Guitar category of Falcon Air.

Hi Simon,
I read you are busy creating a new soundbank for Falcon.
I hope you don't mind me suggesting something:
I would love a patch that does either violin, viola or cello (this means sample-based) . Not a fully sampled instrument library with round-robins etc of course, but one that uses Falcon to produce sound-variations that mimick the place of the bow on the strings (sul ponticello to sul tasto to use official speak).
I can imagine that there's a lot more going on than what most people assume, so if this is not possible or too difficult/time-consuming it's no problem.

I never mind suggestions at all.ErikH wrote:Hi Simon,

If by “mimic“ you mean creating such an instrument synthetically, without the use of samples it would sound pretty artificial in Falcon, as it misses e.g. spectral re-synthesis which would be ideal for such a task (like in Alchemy 2 which is pretty awesome). The problematic part with re-creating these sounds is not so much the tonal, sustained part with different harmonics depending on the position on the bow, but the bow and the noise it creates while bowing. Noise generators will get you nowhere near the realism required for such a mimicked instrument.
Anyway my current Falcon library is almost accomplished and will be published not by me but someone else (hinthinthinthint). Off to get some sleep now.

With mimic I mean anything digital (or even recorded for that matter). Because no sample library, no recording evermatches the real instrument played live.
Sorry for the confusion.
Hope you slept well.

Well, my Falcon/M5 library Ambient Strings has quite a few different bowing articulations from the cello/violin, but not within one patched instrument using e.g. key-switches/articulation crossfades. That would be a huge project to do and there are already a lot of great libraries doing this, VSL Solo Strings XT is my favorite here, very detailed and great sounding. I'm not sure if I want to enter that sonic territory and compete with what's already there, but I will continue to sample string instruments as I love their variety of sound and endless possibilities to mangle and transform them.ErikH wrote:With mimic I mean anything digital (or even recorded for that matter).
