Does the Kazrog KClip 3 plugin have a true peak limiter built-in or do I need to put a true peak limiter after it in the effects chain assuming I want that functionality?
Thanks,
James

It is a clipper. The clipper function is to (surprise) clip anything above a specific threshold. It is well explained on their website. https://kazrog.com/products/kclip-3
The limiter is functioning a bit differently. You can look at it as an compressors with infinite ratio (simplified explanation). It can "pump" or "breathe" more than a clipper if you will.
I suggest you understand what the tool does and you will find your answer.

Thank you for answering kmonkey. I have previously gone over the documentation and watched a couple of YouTube videos, but I'm still a bit fuzzy on it. I'll do some experiments and see what happens. I know that I have to put a true peak limiter after the free version of KClip if I want true peak limiting, but it's a simplified version of KClip. I don't mind putting a true peak limiter after KClip, but if I don't have to then I don't want to.

I'd say first of all it dependes on the settings - how hard do you clip. With softer settings there will be peaks above the threshold, that's normal and such settings are used to avoid harsh disortion.
Second, you could put a limiter after the Kazrog and see what happens. Especially if it's an ISP limiter. Or you could analyze the audio file in a wave editor, non-real time. And you will have your answer. If there's a need for a limiter - by all means, use one!

Thank you Medenka. I did some experiments and it looks like KClip is a pure clipper. Putting a true peak limiter after it doesn't reduce the clarity at all as far as I can tell. My understanding is that most pros will be doing any required clipping during mixing stage and then applying a true peak limiter at the end of the mastering stage. TC's Brickwall limiter has clipping + true peak limiting, maybe Kazrog will add the true peak limiting at some point in the future. That would be icing on the cake for me.
