I did the same same test with mvMeter2. I used it to set the gain with its matching feature (-5.8dB), on a duplicate track, -5.8dB was manually adjust as mvmeter2, it did null (even with +24 dB of gain added on the 2 bus). Just saying............. Hornet VU Meter could be used to calculate the amount of gain and use this, along with a trim plugin, to adjust manually.
