Hi everyone. I am just wondering what people think in general about the SPL Hawk Eye metering plugin.

I demo'd it when it came out, but didn't test it all that much (didn;t have chance to really) and i kind of still want it.

I have seen very, very little about it. In fact, there are no threads here or on gearslutz, which seems insane to me. Surely it isn't that bad right???

I have Melda Multi analyzer, which i have been using for quite a while. Been tempted by the hofa and the flux, but as i am already and MXXX user, it just seems to make sense.

But as for an overall metering system for the 2buss, i thought that Hawk Eye looked pretty damn good.

I have the IK metering (which i currently have for sale) and i really do like that one, but the SPL has spectral phase correlation, which i really like.

Anyway...thoughts?

With iZotope Insight 2 I have more than I need...

HawkEye is amazing. It brings modern metering concept together in really nice way - smooth graphics, and a well designed GUI. It like what Insight could have been. I started with Dourrough, then Insight, moved to Nugen, could never get Flux to work, and finally am happy with HawkEye and Youlean. They are the best meters so far that I've used. :phones:

Insight is now Insight 2...
But you‘re right: Youlean is quite cool and capable!

On win10 ?

I think Melda's Multi Analyzer is way better like you can actually group tracks and itll show you the overlay zones in the frequencies.

Something similar as iZotope Neutron with it‘s masking detector?

I've also used Insight 2. HawkEye does visualization way better than Insight 1/2 or even Nugen Visualizer. Also the data they meter is HawkEye includes things outside of other meters, yet are also very useful: the bit meter, the specral high end extension, the ability to solo-boost a frequency range, the peak histogram, etc etc. :phones:

Its a lot more in depth than that. You can have as many instances as you like showing at once. It has the masking view, but also has freq analyser, oscilloscope, stereo metering and a bunch of other things.

Overall i think it is probably the best.

But i have that strapped across my mix groups. What i wanted was something that is really focused on the stereo buss

they have that on sale at the moment along with the DSM dynamics processor. Tempted to get both.
But there again, i have the melda mspectral dynamics...so maybe i dont need that either.

Did anyone grab magic A/B in the sale? That is pretty damn great too! Still can;t get a definite on when the SPL sale ends, but i demo'd it again and really like it. Nice on the eyes. There are other great analyzers - flux, Hofa, Voxengo. But many of them are not nice to lok at for long periods

ADPTR AB from PA or the Sample Magic AB?
First one has become my go-to AB plugin, very comprehensive, state-of-the-art. Second one is the predecessor and a bit more limited than its successor but cheaper...

ADPTR AB is the one i meant. It is great isn't it?
I was very happy with Melda MCompare - specially as i use MMultianalyzer alongside it in MXXX...BUT ADPTR is undeniably great.

Would really like to pair it with Hawk eye, then Span for the 'overview' type stuff (i think it is great at the slower settings)

Have you tried the Youlean Analyzer? Nice one as well...

Will check that out! Love my analyzers at the mo.

My setup now is to have them on the reaper 'monitor fx' chain
Melda Multianalyzer
Span
Correlometer (also voxengo - really, really useful)
Metric A/B - for which i have an action mapped to a shortcut so that i can call the plugin up and another one for a/b. Tonight going to set up more actions to call up specific start points (think there are 5 in metric)

Quite happy with this. Should also note that the M Analyzer is also on all my main mix busses (there are 8 of them) so when i call up the one on the monitor chain, i can see all 8 instances!!

Also yesterday i finally bought DDMF IIEQ (most underrated eq out there) and i have that on all channels now. Also have an instance of that on my monitor chain, which is itself bypassed, just so i can call it up and then jump to any channel in my mix, whilst cross examining against any other channel.

What i want to do now is get another monitor and have those plugs constantly open on it. Metric, MMultianalyzer, IIEQ, Span (which i have set real slow) and correlometer.

Mixing with your ears is great, but honestly this has helped immensely. Much more than just grabbing another compressor plugin.
Specially after a 10 hour session, when i am fatigued.

Will check out the Youlean though.
Other ones that look good - Flux, Hofa, Black Cat. All standout companies that i have yet to buy anything from.

Haven‘t found it in their manual:
Can I drag and drop a full track into the stand alone version and get the full analysis (especially LUFS) quickly or is it just a real time analyser?
