The 20 MB L2+L3 cache size is ridiculous. I hope Intel plays ball and doubles that next iteration.Numanoid wrote:With Ryzen and a SSD, do a user even need RAM anymore?

Ryzen now showing up on official Passmark Benchmark page....
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
That's the deal - it's baddassssssss!!!
Marks should climb since only one test has been done with only 16g memory, whereas the 6950 and other tests have 32-128g. Single thread it still wins by a few points despite handicap. Gamers rejoice.

What was that supposed to mean?Numanoid wrote:With Ryzen and a SSD, do a user even need RAM anymore?
In fact I'm getting fast RAM (3 GHz / CL 15) just to avoid memory bottleneck. These 8 cores will be hungry for data.
The results are not very spectacular, just fine.Debutante wrote:Ryzen now showing up on official Passmark Benchmark page....

Not sure how does this benchmark work, but it probably doesn't need more than 16 GB to run Either way it's exactly how much I will get.

It's all hype. I meant what I said, my old awful intel is more than 2/3rd's of THAT power and it's not even consistent with current priced intel models.
Am I to believe that it's an 8 core/16 virtual core unit? And these results? My, what people will fall for.

That benchmark is not very solid and professional. It is more of a general indication, but not reliable.
I remember when the Athlon 880 was launched, it was ranked behind the older 860 on that list, now it is ranked above, which makes sense.
Also, it would be nice if one could hide all Xeon processors, then it would be more obvious that there are only three i7 above the AMD, one of which just one slot above.

I'm not expecting AMD to beat Intel, what I want is close performance at a smaller price. Driving prices down is what want from AMD. Also first generation it's the least optimized, so I expect them to compete with Intel head to head in the next one. Right now I want them to hit Intel at the price point.

Which benchmark more closely corresponds to expected VSTi performance?

And another review in text: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/am ... ew,24.html
Seems the results are confusing. Some say it's pretty good for the money, others say it's not (these discussions are based on gaming performance).

They seem to sell well, despite certain performance issues with games.
On one online store it says they have already sold more than 1000 items of those three initial models. And they are not sold out, seems they bought huge amounts...
I wonder why there is a tray and a boxed version of each when the boxed version does not include a cooler/fan. The price is also exactly the same.
