Have a couple of question. Can't seem to get this to work.

Just click the MIDI Learn
button on Kern's control panel (caption turns red) and wiggle both the MIDI controller
and the parameter you want to assign

Nothing seems to happen. I've tried with both the mod wheel and one of my Axiom sliders. No effect.

Second question.

The LFO appears to be hard wired to the osc pitch via mod wheel. Is there any way to disable this? Would like to assign mod wheel to filter cutoff (which I can't seem to do anyway) and modulate cutoff without the LFO kicking in the modulation on the oscillators.

Is this a bug or by design and am I out of luck.

On Windows 7 64 bit running Cubase 7.07.

** EDIT ** NVM. Went through manual a 3rd time and found my answers. Mod wheel can't be assigned to filter cutoff and the CC problem was in my keyboard setup. I will then assume since mod wheel can't be assigned to anything that the LFO is in fact hard wired to the osc pitch. If you can confirm this, that would be great.

Other than all that, love the way this thing sounds.

PS - Scrooo is still my favorite. :hihi:

@wagtunes: Glad it works for you now!
Yes, I can confirm that the Mod Wheel is hard-wired to "Vibrato" only.
Hmmm, maybe I have to rethink this given that the Mod Wheel is just another CC... :ud:

Wow - that was quick! (You really should try not to make it look too easy.)

But this thing is nuts.
Take away velocity and poly, and it's about as powerful as some of those early-70s' home organ-top synths from the likes of Jen and Roland (that I haven't had a serious hankering-after for a good four decades).
Yet I honestly can't remember the last time a synth said 'play me' quite so insistently as Kern does.
Like I say - nuts.

A thing of rare beauty.
None of the really dumb people I knew when I was young are young any more.

Thanks for sharing, will check it out :tu:

So what's in a name, why did you call it Kern?

Is it like Kern = Core ?

I was thinking of Worf's brother in Star Trek TNG (but then his name is spelled Kurn)

Post

Yes, "Kern" for "core" (also see the Kern manual page 3, "Why Kern?" :ud:).

Cheers, Björn

Dont most synths work with most controllers? Seems a bit odd to make a very limited synth to fit a certain controller...
