hey hey everyone serum users ! got some questions before buy :

(i'm testing serum demo actually.)

1- how do u easily set a random lfo "OSC/waveform" and "S&H waveform" on lfo's ? (i saw sine square, tri, saw...)

2- how do u set lfo amount and play with it knob ?

(like lfo set to cutoff or "coarse pitch" and u set the max amount of a knob and with that knob u play with the amount)
like this -> ----~~~/\/\/\ for example...

sry i paint that bad :)
thanx in advance for yours answers... i really fallen in love with that WT synth and on the trial i must know some tricks to use it well before i buy it next month, i want to be sure.

The random LFOs are located in the top left of the global tab. You can apply them in the mod matrix in the SOURCE column by choosing either Chaos1 or Chaos2.

You can control LFO amount with the OUTPUT slider in the mod matrix and/or by assigning an AUX SOURCE. For a gradual increase in amount you would assign an LFO with a ramp in it or the mod wheel perhaps to the AUX SOURCE.

thx for infos !

chaos is so a random lfo.... but so there no real s&h lfo, right ?

Yeah, no S&H LFO.

boring trivia, Serum actually had a S&H LFO in alpha dev, it's already under the hood.. :ud:

S&H LFO is actually planned, my plan as of now is to add a switch to the Chaos1 and Chaos2 LFO's to allow them to function in a S&H capacity.

While I'm here I might as well mention there's a new Serum build up as of just now in the reg'd user forum on http://www.xferrecords.com with some new features such as additional level of folder nesting for all menus, MIDI (CC or note) assignability for advancing presets/tables/noises and more.

Hello Steve! Ty very much for the answer... Was just going to ask for this.

So it's superb, serum is gonna be perfect !

Why not include random & s&h waveforms direct in lfo's ?

Because there is no shape to edit. It isn't a consistent waveform.

I am happy that you don't let us sitting and relax with our "old" Serum Steve! :D

Available here: http://fabledaudio.com/bass-illuminatio ... ords-serum

Bass Illumination includes 72 evolving, atmospheric bass patches for Xfer Records Serum. The patches were each crafted with custom wavetables.
  • All patches are prefixed.
  • All patches are velocity sensitive.
  • All patches have the mod wheel and all four macros assigned.
Bass Illumination also includes a Bonus Pack of 410 LFO Shapes with thumbnails.

Requires Xfer Serum 1.04b9 or later.

The demo includes about 1/3rd of the presets in the soundset. There is a compressor and limiter on the master bus. The two kicks are from Primordial Dot, my bass drum soundset for Serum. The hihat is from the Fabled Serum Soundset. The clap I'll likely add to a future percussion soundset. The demo is 135 BPM.

Sounds ok to me :)

Especially the patches with some sort of scream (formant filer?) are intriguing.

The majority of what's going on in these patches is all happening in the wavetables. The formant qualities come from VOSIM inspired harmonic sequences. A while back I wrote up a little tutorial on creating a really basic VOSIM wavetable in the Xfer Serum advanced algorithm thread. I'm using that and a couple other techniques to create the sequences.

The actual control of the vocal shape is done manually with the mod wheel to allow the user full control in shaping the expression of the voice.

In other words, the vocal is "playable" both melodically and tonally for extended expression.

I just bought Xfer Records Cthulhu and am blown away by how ridiculous it is. I made a strings patch in Serum and simply let Cthulhu go to town with it...
