progtronic uses guitar rig. he shared lots of presets.
If you have vmetal. They allow you to download midifiles of the demos and
the presets. In the vsti guitar comparison video, he tells what he uses in the description.
Ther are some good shreddage and ots guitar tutorials too.
I meant it takes skills to get that kind of sound ;)

I've tried V-Metal and Shreddage but they're cumbersome and you still need to know how to play keyboards and how to dial a good guitar tone in. They're not for the ppl that need a guitar track, but they have no idea how to setup a real guitar rig or just have the guitar part in MIDI format and need to coat it in a believable guitar tone. "RG" or "Cycle" do a better job at offering a fairly acceptable guitar tone without the hassle of ghetting Kontakt, buying the library, then the guitar amp/cab emulators and so on - although they still sound a bit too mechanical & synthetic on a fast riff. Anyway.

You need to practice and gain experience with programing too.
The more time you put in, the better you'll get at it. notthin' comes easy.

Agreed, but that's precisely my beef with these "solutions": they're not an easy fix. If you have the time to invest in learning, then you'd be better off learning playing the real deal (guitar) instead of messing with guitar libraries and such. All I want (and hope to see/hear one day) is a VSTI that can be slapped over a MIDI track and make it sound like a fairly acceptable metal guitar...but I'm going (too) off topic :)

Iron Maiden almost got butchered when they dared to use a little bit of synths for textures on "Somewhere in time"

How are the metal fans gonna react when they find out that songs are made by a computer? :help:

Some bands just don't care about the perception....dark ambient black metal band Darkspace programs their drums, uses lots of samples and synth for textures... They actually go against most black metal conventions, but if you see some of their live shows, it's pretty clear that the fans don't care either. But bass and guitar are played live so they aren't strictly "virtual".

Cool! What amp sims? processing on the drums?

Post

Amp sims are a mixture of Pod Farm 2.5 and the Poulin amps, I forget which ones exactly. I just transferred over to windows 8 and don't have everything set up, quite yet. All processing on the drums was done within Superior Drummer.

Do you disable the podfarm cabinet and use the impulses instead?
I like the contrast in the guitar tones. The one on the right at :22 is real thick.

I really wish I could have found time this month to put something together for the Music Cafe contest, as I was going to do something vaguely in the realm of death metal.

Guitars and bass would have been real instruments, but entirely processed through software. Vocals would have been relatively unprocessed, but recorded direct to my laptop.

To me the hard part for anyone is to make a keyboard instrument sound like a real guitar, as there's something that doesn't quite sound right when you try it. It's too rigid, and lacks the timing idiosyncrasies that come with playing the real thing. To me I'm far less concerned about how the end result is achieved, and more concerned that it has the feel of metal playing.
