Is there any synth that can do roland's Saw PWM?

Some interesting stuff. Do we have any developers watching this?

Yep, that's pretty much what I was looking for in the manual. Where'd you find it?

By the way, it is possible to do the D-50 style saw PWM with Synth 1 (sort of):

Tricky thing is that Synth 1 uses freerunning oscillators, so it will sound different everytime you hit a key. In the above example I got somewhat lucky.
The ideal situation would be a start phase control on on the sine wave oscillator, to ensure a consistent sound for every note.

Anybody guess the mystery synth yet? (Hint: It has a phase control for one of the oscillators)

Ahem. ;)

Andromeda?

Poly-Ana's oscillators can be set to retrigger on note start (or not). As well as setting the starting phase (the phase knob doesn't mean much on a free running oscillator, though phase can still be modulated for classic "FM" operator sounds).

Tried to use phase knob?

I can get VERY close to that D50 waveshape with this settings:

Image

(pitch = -12, fine = +01, p/w around 3/4, phase = 1)

A little note: to hear the phase change when moving a knob you must press a key again.

I think it's from the D50 manual, but I found it on Google Images.

Oh My Goodness. I'll be dammed.

This thing works. Here's the Zebra patch for D-50 Saw with PWM:

Note that the filter still works and is resonant even though it's *before* the ringmodulator

Intriguing!

(uploaded it again... PW wasn't centered... sounds better now!)

:dog: Didn't even notice that [fires up reaper and loads Synth1]...yep, there it is. Cool!

I bet the filter does sound a little different and you might not get it to self-oscillate in this configuration.

Looks like I'll have to get Zebra for myself now (barring winning it in a Patch contest, which hasn't happened yet :( , I'll go ahead and buy the license and support the developer) It's always been on the horizon, but I think it's time. You still have that "replaced by Zebra" discount, don't you? I'm thinking of putting the card on, oh, say, a D-50 perhaps? :hihi:

Interesting patch! :)

I approx. achieved this pic :) (on Synth1) also with the ring mod: osc1 sine, osc2 square (-12), 0:100, p/w 127, LP24 (not fully open)...

Thanks for that! It's a good start, and certainly in the right ballpark, but there are asymmetries which should become more and more present as you increase the 'Shape' parameter, and obviously it needs to morph smoothly from the triangle, thru the spikey wave in the middle, to the top crumpled wave.

It's just such an arbitrary seeming transformation for Roland to put in, and unlike anything I've seen, but sounding quite nice, hence my curiosity.

Waveshapes from WOK's SAM, just to have a pic reference here.
It would be nice if someone will post Urs's Zebra patch example as mp3 and synth or waveshape pic.

Here are the resulting waveforms from Urs' D-50 patch.

Really interesting patch to play with, I liked the sound it made when I lowered the pulse an octave.

This one? You may also find it interesting to play...
