Not exactly a Juno 106, but based upon the Juno-6 / 60

there are a bunch of free SE/SM VSTs that LOOK like a juno106 but i dontVELLTONE MUSIC wrote:can somebody recommend me a good free juno 106 emulation or something like?
think any really emulate the filter and onboard chorus accuratly.
PG8X might be the closest free comparable emu out there but the filters are not as snappy as a 106,
and TAL UNO LX is a good commercial emu.

So as my focus is not electronic dance music my list looks a little different (read: the TAL soft synths and many others are pure gold, but don't get much use in my genre).
Majken's Chimera is one that has no siblings in the hardware universe. Its oscillators are tuned selfoscillating filters if I remember correctly. And it doesn't sound synth'ish at all, but rather like some breathing creature crouching in the shadows. Very musical though. Throw it at an acoustic guitar and be prepared to fall in love.
All the Ugo stuff: Texture, ReZ, String Theory and most of all M-Theory (free beta at some point, not sure about now). The Ugo guys have a way with arpeggiators that makes these stand out. Layer 'em with quantized-to-death beats and they gibe an almost human feel, layer 'em with a real instrument's performance that is a little off the grid and they somehow hold things together and in place. In adition M-Theory (like chimera) can sound very un-synth'ish in a very good way.
Where's Triple Cheese on your lists? Shout-outs to the preset designs. Weird tuning there. A lot of them seem strange when auditioned solo but in combination with recorded real instruments, they add tons of character.
Crystal. Of course!
Does the cm magazine stuff count es sort of freeware? Then I'd toss in their Alchemy Player, Dune, Rhino and Zebra versions . They go a long way.
