It also depends on what someone wants to do. If someone wants to make a fairly standard drum pattern to play over, then various methods work pretty well for that.
I like making percussion tracks with a unique tonality and organic feel... as if it could be played live on some exotic instrument. That's where my Elektron boxes really shine because it is fluid to edit individual steps both in timing and timbre.
Specifically for my approach to drums/percussion/rhythm foundation, ITB does not give me the same sort of satisfying results. Even with expensive controllers, the workflow is not comparable.
