Hopefully I didn't get anything wrong there. Feel free to correct me if I did!
Spot on.

There's no shortage of instruments that can load .sfz files. In addition to mentioned above IL Directwave, Cakewalk Dimension Pro, Cakewalk Rapture Pro and Camel Audio Alchemy (Player) do all good job of opening .sfz files.

On the other hand there's always been a shortage of instruments that can open .sf2 files. Cakewalk SFZ+ was the best .sf2 player out there. IL SoundFont Player was also very good. And that was mostly it.

I'm just curious why Juicysfplugin has to keep trying to connect to google-analytics.com, is that a function of the Juce framework, or something the developer has implemented ?

- Jay
Might be either one or the other. I doubt it's anything nefarious as the code is open and for all to see. I'm too lazy to dig in at the moment. But I guess there's nothing to worry about.

TX16Wx can open .sf2 files.

It can. But it's not been doing that good of a job in my experience. Especially with more complex sf2 files. Also it's not a no-nonsense instrument and has horrible user interface.

Sobanth is also an excellent 64-bit freeware SF2 player.

But my preferred one remains TX16Wx. A true comprehensive 64-bit freeware synth based only on samples, your samples. Multi-layer, many modulations, splitable keyboards, etc. And it reads many formats : AIFC, AIFF, Akai, EXS24, FLAC, OGG, REX, REX2, SF2 (SoundFont), sfz, Typhoon Compressed Audio, WAV.
Build your life everyday as if you would live for a thousand years. Marvel at the Life everyday as if you would die tomorrow.
I'm now severely diseased since September 2018.

Another .sf2 player is BassMidi Vsti

TX16Wx sampler (including the free version) plays soundfont files and works on Mac.

It's a JUCE Personal license thing, you can read about it here:

Ah... !
Yeah, I didn't think it was anything really evil, but then again... google-analytics... hmm... you never know. :scared:

Anyhow, this was from the read me bundled with the tinyq plugin, thanks PTV (and to ikjb including this info with his plugin) ! :)
Not that I'm overly paranoid, but it's always good to know what is being sent out from your machine in the background.

Thanks again guys !

This product uses JUCE's Personal License which requires that data will be send to google-analytics. This data can be evaluated by ROLI Ltd.

As far as I understand the following data is sent to google-analytics:
v=1
tid=UA-19759318-3
cid=[anonymised device ID]
t=event
ec=info
ea=appStarted
cd1=JUCE v5.3.2
cd2=[Operating System, e.g. Windows 10]
cd3=[Device Description, e.g. Windows (Desktop)]
cd4=[anonymised device ID, same as 'cid']
cd5=Plugin
cd6=TinyQ
cd7=1.0.0
cd8=lkjb
an=TinyQ
av=1.0.0

So the data contains mainly information about the product (lkjb TinyQ) as well as your operating system and an anonymised device ID.

did sfz+ load soundfonts?
Yes it did, but oddly enough not SFZ files.
That was always a real head-scratcher. :?

Thank you robotmonkey for informing us about this plugin. My first impression - after playing just one bass track - is positive. The sound quality is apparently quite good and it plays tight on rhytm. I think I will use this alot.

This plugin is apparently not multitimbral. Let it be so, but please somebody make a a multitimbral fork.

As this is GPL, we should ask the dev or anybody to compile it with the Juce open source license. That would neither create a splash nor send Google-analytics data

A quick Google search for "Open Source Juce" turned up this:
https://forum.juce.com/t/open-source-de ... juce/29579

So apparently it is possible to compile with a GPL option enabled, eliminating the google-analytics nonsense, but then again I am not a programmer so I wouldn't know how to do this.

EDIT: Oh yeah almost forgot to say... I do still really like this, despite the analytics nonsense, so thanks again to the developer for making this available !

Tested it and it does sound very good and have a low CPU impact.
Vst3 patch changes does not work for me, but Vst2 (Bank 0) does. It's not multitimbral.
Thanks for posting and to all involved.
