Yes, MUCH more up front! I wish I was in my studio listening to it though instead of on $20 multimedia speakers that INCLUDED the sub woofer! ;) I'll see what I can do later.

Yes, I absolutely realize this is for softer, more haunting, but that doens't mean it can't sit up front in a mix though. Spirited sits up front, so I KNOW it can be done. ;) As a ponential buyer of a library, THAT'S what *I* want to hear. I guess that's my point with all of this, what I wish to hear in a demo.

Ensemble DOES sound very real to me too, it's just sounds too 'wet' with reverb, natural or not, and loses a bit of clarity to my ears.

Yes, I do tend to pick things apart when someone asks my opinion. I rarely say 'that sounds fantastic', and say nothing else. Not my style. ;) I just notice that Northern Sounds just gives a lot of 'that's great', and they say nothing more. Pity really.

I hope this helps. Not often you get to talk to the developer directly to give feedback, least not 8 years ago when I got started with samples. :) I'll certainly be watching for your next libraries. Similiar price range again for those?

Yes! Diva Extended is $99 to non Diva users and $49 for Diva users.
Diva by Design will be under $99

Phantom will be under $200.00
Choir under $300

You know, it's funny ... I get yelled at from my own team for saying the price up front ... I want to be the company that makes great sounds and does not ask that you sell your house to use them :)

Thanks Devon ... you are always helpful.

PS. You know of Rob Elliot? He's is composing demo 3

Sounds good, looking forward to getting asap. What are the Phantom and Choir libraries? Also I heard you might/are going to do boys and girls choir?

Post

Yes Sir. Thank you.

Phantom Voice is Diva's counterpart.

Classical Male Soloists

Choir (not yet nammed) is a boys and girls choir.

Phantom Voice should be out mid winter ... Youth Choir still in the works.

Lot's of meetings about it. Hard to get kids for an 8 hour session.
and $$$ :)

Francis,

Your Diva female voice samples are beautiful! There are no other samples of this kind that are available anywhere.

A job very well done!

All the best,

Sounds great. Hope to get them all your stuff for christmas. :D Is there any chance you would consider having solo boy and girl for your youth choir. To my knowledge in particular there is no solo girl. I believe SOV has solo boy, but no girl! Also is there any chance the girl choir/solo girl might have multisampled "la". Everyone just does ooh, ah and eh usually..La would be so cool and needed (anyone know if there's a library that has this?), especially for solo girl/girls choir. Anyway, best of luck with your libraries!

No solo girl or girl choir that I'm aware of either. The solo boy in SOV is decent to good, but not jaw droppingly incredible. Getting a 'la', you could build with VOTA and the VOTA utility, since it has pitched and non-pitched consonants with vowels. Can pretty much build anything with it.

Thanks for the info Devon. I definitely want VoTA at some poiont. But it's only choir right, no solos? La stuff with a solo girl would be so cool though. Maybe in VoTA 2. Thanks again.

Post

Yes, it's choirs, but you can 'kinda' do solos. Listen to this little piece I wrote for a director friend. http://www.panicnow.net/~devonb/Illuminati-2.mp3 for VOTA example. Just typed it in and out popped that. Well, it was a little more work than that, but you get the idea. :) It's still going to be multiple singers no matter what way you slice it up.

Bela D Media is pleased to present Update version 1.1 for the Gigastudio release of DIVA – Classical Female Soloists. All updates created by Rick Chadwick.

What are the updates?

A pitch bend range of +/- 2 semitones has been added to each instrument’s properties.

In response to user feedback, we have abbreviated the titles of some of the instruments. This abbreviation will make it easier to differentiate between instruments when more than DIVA instruments are loaded into more than one channel of the main window of Gigastudio.
For example, you will find that the name of an instrument like:
“Soloist 1 Sustained Vowels – ah close”
has been abbreviated to:
“S1 Sust Vowels - ah close”
The abbreviation allows you to read the full instrument name in a main Giga window channel slot.

This first round of updates also adds extended keyswitching of patches to most of the DIVA instrument sets. Keyswitching is simply another way of making program changes - using the keys on the keyboard instead of sending midi program numbers. With Diva, most keyswitching works from C3 and up. For example, if there are 2 patches in a keyswitched patch, the first patch will switch using C3, and the second patch will switch using C#3. Keyswitches based at C3 will appear in the standard range of any five-octave master keyboard, rather than requiring transposing to ‘get at’ the keywitch keys.

Below is a brief description of the keyswitch updates:

Diva Ensembles Merge requires a preliminary instrument merge before it can be applied*. This instrument includes all Ensemble instruments as well as:

Diva Ens KS 1 2 3 4, with the following parameters:
Key C3 loads Diva Ensemble 01
Key C#3 loads Diva Ensemble 02
Key D3 loads Diva Ensemble 03
Key D#3 loads Diva Ensemble 04

Diva Ens KS 3 4 5 6, with the following parameters:
Key C3 loads Diva Ensemble 03
Key C#3 loads Diva Ensemble 04
Key D3 loads Diva Ensemble 05
Key D#3 loads Diva Ensemble 06

Diva Ens KS 1 2 5 6, with the following parameters:
Key C3 loads Diva Ensemble 01
Key C#3 loads Diva Ensemble 02
Key D3 loads Diva Ensemble 05
Key D#3 loads Diva Ensemble 06

Preliminary update install info:

1. Load one of your Diva .gig files into the editor
2. Click on ‘File’ and choose ‘Load Articulation’
3. Browse to the directory in which you saved the .art file updates
4. Double click on the .art file whose name corresponds to the currently loaded .gig file. It will load almost instantly.
5. You should now see a slightly different set of patch names in the instrument bank list, including the new keyswitched instruments.
6. NB. When upgrading software, it is always a good policy to backup user data before overwriting it with an update. If your Diva files are currently unchanged from those on the install disk, then your install disk can act as your backup. However, if you’ve made ANY changes to the Diva instruments which you would like to keep, please make sure that when you save the updated file to disk, you save it to a new directory – NOT the same directory from which you loaded the gig file. This will allow you the option to merge your edited user files with the updated file at a later date.
7. Save your new instrument.
8. Please note that at times, even after using the editor’s ‘download’ button, the currently loaded Gigastudio instrument does not update, which means you will not hear the most recent patch you think you have ‘downloaded’. Selecting another instrument in the bank list, and then switching back to the one you downloaded is usually enough to cause the correct instrument to load.

* The Diva Ensembles Merge .gig file requires all 6 Ensemble instruments to be loaded in the same instrument prior to loading the articulation update.
Please follow these steps to merge the 6 instruments:
1. Load the editor
2. Open a NEW file by selecting the ‘new file’ icon, or holding ctrl and typing ‘n’.
3. Click on ‘file’ and choose the ‘merge file’ option.
4. Browse to the ‘Diva Ensembles’ folder
5. Highlight ALL 6 of the Diva Ensemble instruments and select ‘Open’
6. Now that all 6 instruments are in the same .gig file, you can load the Diva Ensembles Merge articulation file in the same way as any other .art file.
7. Remember that you will need to save this new instrument to its own location.

NB The editor allows a choice between either a two or four layer crossfade. Where we have three layers, I've used a four layer crossfade and 'nulled' the fourth layer by moving its fade in point to 127 on the wheel.
