How to specify fret number or open string for Evolution Steel Guitar?

Hi,

I am trying to create a pattern, such that it is played exactly how I play it on my guitar. I can't figure out how to enter notes in Piano Roll in the DAW, and have playback be at specified frets/open strings. How do I go about that?

Hi Brian,

One approach would be to get the fretting position close enough to where most of the notes are on frets/strings you want, and then use the manual string selection keyswitches (that are mapped at the very lowest six MIDI notes by default) to override that whenever needed. You could also automate the fretting position slider to a MIDI CC, but that probably would add too much trial and error to get things just right.

Another route you could try is enabling the MIDI guitar mode, which maps each string to a separate MIDI channel--just be sure to set the instrument's MIDI input channel to "omni" so that it can receive MIDI input from any channel. A nice additional benefit about that approach is that the legato and bends will be separate for each channel, too.
