Was announced around this time least year, not much talk about it surprisingly.
They released Steinbergs Retrologue as a hardware synth running this combo of soft and hardware as a showcase.

Elk Audio OS is the award-winning Audio Operating System from Elk (formerly known as MIND Music Labs) that allows you to run existing VST and other plugin formats on hardware instruments and audio devices in real time with ultra low latency.

The 'existing' plugin has to be compiled for the platform
