new haircut much..

Timbre Wolf is on the cover of latest Beat Magazine (July 2016)

So why did it take 18 months for them to get round to it, are they just late starters, or hasn't Timbe Wolf had a proper release before now?

They give it 5 out 6 rating BTW

At Sweetwater they are already doing closeout sale, marking it down to $299

you know something is wrong when their *virtual* analog before it sounds way better and can be had now for cheaper lol! (oh with more voices too!)

I can recommend the micron/miniak wholeheartedly if you have a computer editor.. great synth.. timbre wolf sounds awful though unfortunately.

So what is the deal with these things? I feel like these are the next generation of Roland TB303/TR808. Derided by the contemporaries, po' folks in 3-5 years will discover and create HUGE demand for these shitty synths. :hihi:

That said, everything Ive heard from them is average at best. I played with the Rhythm wolf and was completely underwhelmed. Sounded like a beta softsynth from a CS student.

Front cover & 5/6 rating... that shows how low quality that mag has reached... they'd better get paid a crapload of money to promote such a waste of an "instrument"... pff..

just got the Tom Cat a few days ago. tbh, I really like that machine. Slowly but surely people are coming out with some pretty good jams with it. I got a few jams with it and some other have made some quite impressive stuff as of late. Machine's like these just remind me of when Roger Linn and Roland came out with their drum machine which were consider trash. Until the machines get into the right hands of a bravo soul that wants to venture off to space and make something "refreshing".

Now the reality of the Tom Cat and the Wolf is the fact they made some odd choices with the circuits. Like Im not a fan of the lack curve on the decay envelopes (example, dialing the decay all the down to the left still yields sound?). Especially not a fan of the high pass filter on the snare instead of a low pass. I understand that implementing a 12-24db low pass filter would need a resonance knob, but the "snap" would be more aggressive (which is the main complaint from many user w/o a physical track mixer) . Not to mention, a crap ton of people won't admit they don't understand drum synthesis. I'll probably focus on some tutorials to get people on track.

I got a Timbre Wolf this summer (mid-July) and had the chance to play with it extensively. It's not nearly as bad as what people think. It's really good for deep bass, solid subs and retro sounding leads. Of course, using some effects and you can come up with some really good ambient tones:

What I like about it is how easy it is to use. Everything is laid out logically and in my case I didn't had to read the manual to figure out how to use it. The interface is very intuitive and looks good too... It matches with my Arturia controller!

Krog360's YouTube channel is great for music made with the Timbre Wolf and the Rhythm Wolf (among many other gear). One of my favorite track from him is "Orphan":

Another good tune (using only the Timbre Wold and Rhythm Wolf):

Like any instrument its usefulness will depend on what you're trying to accomplish. Personally, I'm into old analog sounds reminiscent of the seventies. The Timbre Wolf fit the bills 100%. Some people see a problem with the filters thinning out at maximum range. At first it can be perceived as a problem, but once you take the time to learn how to use it, it makes the instrument a bit more versatile within its limitations. However, I would have preferred a switch to choose between a LP and a HP filter. It would have been better.

That being said, it really well build, super solid and I prefer its keys compared to my keyboard Mopho. With a couple of FX pedals and an analog mixer, it's a lot of fun if you're a tweaker and it gives me some rest from the computer. So overall, not as bad as what people claim. Pretty good considering the price (I think it was 300$ lately). Keyboard Mag did a review of it that you can read here:

It´s a difficult unit and from the point of view it could be a longtime fun instrument.
The Soundengine is, of course, mostly crab.
A few nice Atmospheres and Acidlines but with this,, hands away´´ filter Akai destroys much of the structure.

But!
4 outputs which also work as gate out and very initutive pattern sequencer are not to find so easily.
And the Midipart of it!
Very good Keyboard, Channelpart buttons, Sequencer.
Great joy to use this with a Maschine mikro.

last but not least, It´s a damn good looking Unit. I hope Akai will update the Timbre with a better class sound. The 4 part Panel is something which not comes arround everyday. The Vermona perfourmer needs Keys and sequencer from the outside. The DSI Tetra has to much features for this kind of expander and a modular solution is much more expensive.

My intention was to use a much nicer word for Bullshit. So sure that ,,crab´´ was the better option.
