i am getting a roland gaia which you can sculpt tones from scratch with.
i am thinking it may be too hard to get a sound out of.
when (admittedly randomly) changing sliders and knobs on a VST, starting from the initial tone/patch, it is very hard to get something resembling a lush preset... most of the time adjusting parameters end in causing silence!
i was thinking maybe using built in presets/patches as a starting point, but then the knobs/sliders wont be it the correct position since they are physical. what happens then?

It does not matter what position all sliders and knobs have when you choose a preset. As long as you don't touch any sliders or knobs the preset sound will keep sounding the same. It is only if/when you start to change any of those sliders or knobs that the sound will be affected by them.

I am thinking: if this is too complex, then anything will be! Even Synth1 looks much more complex...rubez wrote:i am thinking it may be too hard to get a sound out of.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

suppose trial and error and i will get better.
does this have the same potential to do the same sounds as the JP8000?
i know people say it is bad sounding, but technically is it the same set up, same waves etc?

Compact without being cramped or compromised, the SH01 is all about direct, uncomplicated synthesis anyone can understand.
Well, you probably have no other choice but to learn synthesis now.
Take your time to recreate 100 presets from other synths or Youtube and you will get the idea.

If you picked up a book written in Chinese and wanted to read it but didn't speak Chinese, what would you do?

I just looked at the front panel and it made complete sense.BertKoor wrote:I am thinking: if this is too complex, then anything will be! Even Synth1 looks much more complex...rubez wrote:i am thinking it may be too hard to get a sound out of.
In fact download and learn TAL Noisemaker. Once you understand that backward, the layout looks similar enough that you should be fine on the Gaia.

Get a freeware soft synth, and try to learn sythesis, before shelling out hundreds of Euros for a hardware synth, when you don't even have a basic understanding of synthesis, or know anything about the features of the synth you ordered...

It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for an average man to program a synth ... ( Deciduous 17:32 )
