For information: the Synth is in alpha currently. So for the release, it takes some more months

I don't know why I think it is a French Vintage synth!
My guess it is this one:

i like xils stuff, I own most of it, and have been a customer since the very first xils plugin .... but i think i've reached critical mass as far as emulations go. and i assume a new xils synth will be an emulation.
i hope they go for something not just rare and/or expensive ... but something with a really interesting architecture.

Big Xils fan albeit not easy to imagine buying yet another one of their emulations.... But we'll see. If it's so obscure in the softsynth world I may bite.
Whatever Xavier does is typically of very high quality, so I look forward to more information.

Judging from the sound examples my ears tell me it's this:
No signature here!

Roland MT32 was a big commercial success, yet it's barely desirable nowadays. Tb-303 was a low cost 'bass' synthesiszer, and it was a kind of failure from a commercial POV for Roland. Yet it seems highly desirable nowdays. The PolyKobol was a commercial disaster, but, as all RSF stuff, with MORPHING analog oscillators and killer filters it was probably one of the "best" synthesizers of it's time, and had years in advance from the innovation/technology POV. Same with the EMS 1000. Many highly respected analog synthesizers simply signed the death of the company who produced them.( SCI, etc)chk071 wrote:Who would have thought. Each to his like, but doesn't "rare" also implicate that there hasn't been too much interest in the original synth? So, basically, as a developer, you will aim at a small target audience that way. I mean, the guy's gotta know, but, to me, that seems a bit counterproductive. Considering that people are very much into popular classic synths, not the rare ones.DFoisie wrote:XAnother new rare analog emulation in the pipeline !
So that ... I can't see a direct link between commercial success of an instrument at the date of it's release, and its qualities as a musical instrument.

That's a way to give Xils-Lab users some info about the current works of the company.chk071 wrote:Well, that's marketing. Everyone does it like that these days. Tease -> produce interest -> throw the people some nibbles -> let people talk their b***s off, and spread the word -> finally release the product.AnX wrote:Why dont they just release a product instead of making sure ppl spam forums for months first

Yes, ears are an important part of a musician's life. And the sad thing is : You can't buy new ones. Cruel, cruel world.robotmonkey wrote:Judging from the sound examples my ears tell me it's this:

Ime, all synths sound different, though I've recently read that some people think they all sound identical, or similar to the least.
I still have a version of a Xils synth were I had a switch for ONLY the envelopes with two different models, and the second trio of envelopes were simply the PKBII model. All the patches developed on the original engine sounded very different. Some you could barely relate to their version with the original envelopes of the emulation. And that was only the envelopes...
So well, short version : In a musical instrument, everything matters, every little parameter. And the sum of all the components AND interactions define the signature of the instrument. I'm not really a narrow minded afficionado of 'émulations only'. Oxium and StiX are original designs, not emulations. But they have in common with the Xils 3 or the V5000 vocoder to be unique musical instruments, with a strong musical identity. I personnaly dont mind people who think that all instruments sound similar, or that there are enough emulations of this or that beeing sceptical. Being sceptical is a valuable as an approach for any new instruments that another one. Then, it's only an approach, when the instrument finally exists, there's music. And making music with a lovable instrument ... it's just something else. The real thing. -imo-

Hmm yes, that what it sounded like to me, a "divide down" architecture synth, like those string synths.. You could very well be right here imho with your guess for the Polymoogvic_france wrote:I'm going to stick my neck out, and have a wild guess at Polymoog. Listening to those A/Bs.. anyone agree with me... analog drift, but perfect octaves? (the Polymoog is a "divide down" architecture, plus it has Sawtooth, Square and "mixed").wagtunes wrote:Okay, so does anybody know what the synth is?
But otoh we could be awfully wrong too
