Over the last several months, the pieces I've exported from LIVE9 to MP3 file and then uploaded to SoundCloud are very low in volume. You really need to turn up the gain on your player to hear them. Is this a function of the master track trim level being too low prior to export ? Should I apply more compression/limiting to the master ? My pieces are not getting much love because they are too quiet.
Thoughts ?

Are you doing any sort of mastering at all?

Is that the actual feedback you're getting, or is that just your hunch?Mister Natural wrote:My pieces are not getting much love because they are too quiet.

Erik - using Ozone5
say, looking at my Export dialog box last night . . . could it be as simple as the "normalize" button not being checked ?
Dutchman - actual feedback; thank you very much

It shouldn't be normalize unless you're setting up the limiter wrong in Ozone and exporting a mix too quiet. If you want to send me a copy of the actual file I can take a look at it for you.

How are you exporting from Live to MP3? The export options in Live are either WAV or AIFF ...Mister Natural wrote:Over the last several months, the pieces I've exported from LIVE9 to MP3 file and then uploaded to SoundCloud are very low in volume.

That track is definitely very quiet, it's peaking at -18dBFS. Have you looked at the Ozone manual, or maybe some tutorials online? Normalizing might help in this case, but something else is going on if your track is being exported this quietly after mastering it yourself.

If the master level trim is set to -18db or 0db; does that make a difference upon export ?

LOL! Yes, that would explain why it's -18dBFS. Put it back to 0 before you export, double check you're not clipping too.
