I'm not sure where I got that info from or how true it is(or not), I was under that impression though that VST3 gives a better performance and taxes the CPU less. Could be pure codswallop!VariKusBrainZ wrote:VST3 gives lower cpu usage, sounds like snake oil to me.
Unless it caters for automatically disabling plugins when theres no audio being generated/processed by the plugin.
I cant imagine how an algorithm is going to be more efficient in VST3 over 2.4.
Happy to have my universe turned inside out and be proven wrong and I too will evangelise VST3

Xils-Lab PolyKB II [ Used by Universal Audio in NAMM 2014 ]
2010-11-29T12:36:51+00:00
The title might be a bit polemical, and I hope you'll forgive me for that
Below is the shortest possible list of all the new features included in Version 2 of the PolyKB.
With version 1 it was "only" possible for example to modulate the Cut-Off AND/OR the VCA decay AND/Or two other parameters with ........ the output of the pitch of the Polysequencer, or the velocity of the Polysequencer ........
Here we go :
"First and foremost, it's a / free / update for all existing *PolyKB*
(Version 1) users, and, as such, comes fully loaded with 250 patches
created by some of the best sound designers around; while most of these
patches are brand new, the majority of V1 presets have been enhanced to
include mod wheel and/or pressure action.
While *PolyKB II* retains the uncompromising state-of-the art analogue
characteristics of V1, we've added a lot of features that were not
available on yesteryear's sought-after classic hardware synths to
combine the best of both worlds — vintage and modern:
*
Existing modulation has been enhanced in the three modulation
matrices — all can now have a negative value applied (V1 always
being positive), while an additional Velocity Control Mode allows
for a / huge / dynamic range!
*
A number of new modulation sources and targets have been added,
including Monophonic LFOs (allowing for Mono and Poly LFOs in the
same patch); Mod Wheel; Envelope parameters; Noise and individual
Oscillator levels; Global and individual pitch; Phaser and Chorus
rates; Delay Times; and Glide — all combining to open a creative
doorway to highly-expressive sound design.
*
The implementation of a unique Time Multiplier system allows all
envelope times to be multiplied by x2, x3, or x4 — all with a
simple click.
*
Two new effects have been added — *Phaser*, plus a special *Dual
EQ*, with a unique and musical-sounding Contour function.
*
The Arpeggiator now includes a Polyphonic mode, as well as Gate
and Swing parameters, making it far more versatile, while its
Octave function has also been enhanced.
*
The proprietary *D-Myx* Stereo XY Pad tool now benefits from two
never before seen dynamic modes, allowing a controlled motion
between the points with full visual control, so users can quickly
create very complex dynamic stereo scenes.
*
The proprietary *P-Myx* Polyphony-controlled XY Modulation Pad can
now send negative modulation amounts, allowing notes to sound
different each time they're played — kiss goodbye to boring,
static sounds, forever!
*
The easier-to-operate Polyphonic Sequencer now has a magnification
tool and shift step function — very handy for real-time recorded
patterns.
*
Responding to user feedback, *PolyKB II* benefits from an
ergonomically and cosmetically-revamped GUI, viewable in three
sizes (Small, Medium, and Large) to make for a more pleasureable
working experience — especially for those running smaller
displays, such as laptop users.
*
An improved, intuitive management system is based around a
powerful dual-hierarchical filtering concept, allowing users to
quickly find whatever patch they're looking for.
Of course, the new sound library takes advantage of all these features —
almost all new presets react to Mod Wheel, for example, yet should some
users want to expand their sonic horizons further still with more new
patches, then *two affordable soundsets* will be available soon after
the *PolyKB II*'s release date."
While features alone might useless, features combined with a synth which has already been largely praised for its great VA character might become interesting. The PolyKB offers some truly unique features that you won't find in any other synth.
I'll add some audio examples in the near future to try to exemplify all the above.
Meanwhile all questions ( Mono and poly Lfos ??? , PMYX and D-Myx engines ??? ) and comments are welcomed.
Thanks for reading,
LtZ
