Waveforms are not wavetables / samples etc.
[*] Should be able to generate all the basic waveforms
[*] Mono and Poly
[*] Also has sub osc
[*] Octave feature
[*] Legato and Portamento modes (should do Portamento withough playing having to play legato phrases)
[*] Host syncable LFO (Mod wheel controllable)
[*] All the basics ASDHR, Amp, Envelope, Filters etc.
[*] Midi learn would be really nice to have.
[*] A simple, straightforward, uncluttered interface without a lot of additional bells and whistles beyond this list. [/b]
Budget ranges from free to $30. I am trying to dig up my old copy of FL Studio Producer Edition. If one of the included synths fits the above criteria. Please let me know.

$39 over you budget but have a look at FAW Circle. Free upgrade to Circle 2 when it comes out also.

Wow. You guys are fast. I was just looking at Synth1 right after I posted this. Will check it out.
@Karten. Sine wave is the most important waveform. I would use it more than all others probably.
To clarify... im okay with the synth having samples/wavetable as an additional option, but not as the sole basis for its waveorms.

TAL-Noisemaker meets most criteria I think, and it is free:

A triangle filtered gives a sine - even a square or a saw filtered can give a sine, if the filter is good enough and have enough slope to properly cut all other frequencies. That's why many synths simply don't have a sine wave.jrides wrote:Wow. You guys are fast. I was just looking at Synth1 right after I posted this. Will check it out.

BTW, I don't know what comes in FL Studio, but if it comes with all the Image-Line synths, you already have your base pretty well covered.

Indeed. I would rather not use a "workaround" (more like an additional step actually) for sine, though, (if I don't have to). I will drop this one on the end of my list, and if the others don't fit the bill, I will give it a try. The simpler the better though.fmr wrote:A triangle filtered gives a sine - even a square or a saw filtered can give a sine, if the filter is good enough and have enough slope to properly cut all other frequencies. Synths from Image-Line that meet all or almost the criteria:
SimSynth, Sawer, Poizone and Wasp XL.
Other synths that can do what you want, although they are different (means they can do a lot more): Harmor, Sytrus and Toxic Biohazard.
Anyway, you will be well served with TAL synths, and those have the right price (free)
