Anyway, while I have heard such sounds before, I didn't know there is a term for it, let alone dedicated plugins :) There is such a sound at the beginning of Patrice Rushen's Number One, that's the first one that comes to my mind. And maybe Quincy Jones' Ai No Corrida.

The Riser by AIR Music Tech
Phalanx by Vengeance
Just about any synth if you know how

Post

Any synth can do a simple white noise sweep.
But yeah there are a lot of 'specialized' tools that are really cool if you have the right samples to feed into them.

Ive used these, and they are all great-

Whoosh from MeltedSounds, Reaktor ensemble
WaveWarper from SoundMorph, standalone
SweepMachine from UVI
Prodyon Liftor, Kontakt
S-Layer ensemebl from TwistedTools is infinitely useful and can be used to roll your own risers/splashes.

And dont forget the original, and free, Whoosh vst from xoxos-

Riser from AIR looks cooool. I havent tried it.

What's next?

Polishes..?
What about " Buffers "

You can sweep any synth or sampler with Xils Ramses. Real time controlled ( Velocity, wheel, note position, note on etc ), enveloppe controlled, LFO controlled, Masks ( advanced step seuquencersand more ) controlled , or all of that ... simulatenously.

Just saying ....

So how about a toilet that "Buffs as it Flushes"..?

So Wavetable synths aside, what really is happenin' these days is the "take off" plugs

So we got Riser from Air.

And now good ol' Zero-G enters the market with Whoosh Designer (Whoosh it to me baby)

https://www.zero-g.co.uk/store/whoosh-designer-p525.php

Crazy expensive at $100 (+VAT), when it doesn't work with Kontakt Player :(

Post

BTW, just checking the free AudioAssault FilterCrusher

Why would anybody need more whoosh than a twist of the filter crusher knobs can give?

Just add a bit of delay.

Post

NI's Razor. Major-league articulated sweeps with very interesting detail. Or not.

Post

UVI's Sweep Machine is a great tool. Otherwise you can always just bring white noise into a synth and make your own.
