If Roland made a D50 vst emulation, would you purchase it?

Well i just looked up a demo of this thing and holy crap it aliases like a bastard.

Sure it has some interesting sounds, but i wouldn't use a VSTi/AU version in my productions so it's a no from me.

I wouldn't purchase it, but I would love for Roland to make one so that we could put an end to the endless threads crapping on about the need for one.
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Akai VIP = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

I think you over estimate how much Roland cares what we think.........or want.........arkmabat wrote:Please take the time to take this poll. I think Roland underestimates how much this thing would sell.
But I voted yes anyway just as a symbolic gesture.

One would assume the VSTi version would have updated specs including oversampling and a "legacy" mode for the purists. But this is the text book definition of vaporware.......except this one will never even be planned let alone developed.V0RT3X wrote:Well i just looked up a demo of this thing and holy crap it aliases like a bastard.

It depends on who defines what is "reasonably priced". Based on what they are charging for their recente plug-outs", I would not buy a D-50 that was priced accordingly. But If it was priced under $100,00 maybe I would. So, maybe you should change t eh first option for "Yes, as long as it was priced under $99,00" because I don't trust Roland for "resonable prices".
Oh, and it had to have some updated specs, and expanded ROM, like what Korg did for the M1.

I agree, and voted as well.Teksonik wrote:I think you over estimate how much Roland cares what we think.........or want.........arkmabat wrote:Please take the time to take this poll. I think Roland underestimates how much this thing would sell.

If Korg can produce the M1 plugin and others for $49 a piece, why can't Roland give us a D-50 plugin for around the same price? Or maybe somewhere between $49 and$99, I think that would be ok.

I think most of sample based synths should be emulated, since they sound as rich as analogs, but their sound is more stable than on analog (emulations). I would highly like a d50 emulation, also a korg 01w emulation (or wavestation + the ring modulation from 01w).
But I think there is already at least one sample based vst that emulates a d50:

Don't know how realistic this sounds..

That's not an emulation. That's a sample package. Tjere are others, in fact, like this one: http://www.kontaktbanks.com/kb_deepflight.htmlHanz Meyzer wrote:I think most of sample based synths should be emulated, since they sound as rich as analogs, but their sound is more stable than on analog (emulations). An emulation, as is commonly understood, has to be a 1:1 matching parameter recreation of the original (at least).

Pointless emulating the D50 it's a rompler. Today we can have far better sample quality. Romplers lack expression and tweakability. You are better off buying Rob Papen's Blue II instead. http://www.robpapen.com/blue2.html that's a mix of FM and samples.

The album by Enigma -MCMXC was done all most fully with a D-50 and sounds incredible good.
