Yes, it behaves like that, but seems to be a Win7, x64 issue.

LE: I just checked my own system to find if that key is present, and found out it is. Considering that, I would think that if it is missing on your system, it's definitely a problem.

Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, show processes from all users, and post (maybe a few - enlarge the window as much as you can) screenshots.

Holy Crap dizbmm :dog:

What are your specs? CPU, RAM, HDDs (are they 7200 or 5400 RPM), etc.

Based on what I see in your processes, my guess is you have a USB hub plugged in too?

You got a lot going on there pal.....

dizbmm....do the same for Device Manager.

Do you know how to get to it?

In case not - right click "Computer" and then click on "Manage". Once that opens, on the left hand side click on "Devices".

Need to see if any conflicts happening with hardware.

A simple idea: Have you tried to change the Midi cable?

Post

Yeah, he tried that on page one ;)

I'm curious though if he is running a hub and plugging this stuff into it. Most of the time these devices need their own dedicated usb port. A hub won't cut the mustard often times.

I think he's just got way to much happening for the lappy to keep up.

I'm running out of ideas, but I have found this article on more than one web site while searching "midi ox undefined external error":

This involves manually editing the registry. Do this only if you're confident about what you're doing (have modified the registry before)

Hope this helps!

This guy explains also how to make a registry backup.

Yeah I use a hub, however the keyboard was working fine on it previously.
Tried connecting to the laptop's usb port directly - didn't help

You mean it wasn't there in the first place?
Are you sure you added it in the correct place?

You can put this text in a file, rename it to file.reg and merge to registry.

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=hex(7):6b,00,73,00,74,00,68,00,75,00,6e,00,6b,00,00,00,00,00

I actually extracted this from my own registry. Don't forget to reboot...
I'm sorry, if this doesn't work, I give up...

I followed the instructions step by step, it wasn't there, it is now.

Anyway, final conclusion is that my computer stopped getting MIDI messages from any device on any input (USB or MIDI on audio interface).

There's some global MIDI disaster going on!

Wait for T-CM11to come back. I am confident he'll spot something in the processes you posted.

In the mean time, I'll ask again

What are your specs? This is important.

Also post pics of your Device Manager please.

Nope, didn't spot anything suspicious...

@dizbmm: have you rebooted since editing your registry?

So... if a reboot didn't fix anything, maybe you could try this:
