I know its a bit dated but what is the synth used to create the well known gliding sound on Summer Madness by Kool and the Gang? Is there a soft synth equivalent?

Don't know if this is correct, but someone mentioned this on yahoo's odyssey group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/odysseypatch/
Arppe2600va: http://glenstegner.com/softsynths.html (it's free!)

There's quite a few soft versions of the Arp 2600 available:The track begins with the Rhodes riff, then the synth line consists of octave jumps.
Ronald Bell played sax and keys. The synth they used on that track was an Arp 2600 for the octave jumps and solo, and the string washes were done on a Mellotron.

This track is one of the greatest instrumental I've ever heard (considering it's from the seventies). The rhodes in ti have been sampled in a couple of songs too, one being from Digable Planet's 'Jimmy Diggin'' I think.

If you like it, than you should listen to "reflections" by Bill Conti from Rocky 1 Soundtrack ! I love both tracks.

if you like that you should listen to "Eye of the Tiger" by survivor on the Rocky 3 soundtrack. Though I dunno why, I just thought we should keep the chain going.

There is a dog living downstairs of my new apartment, and whenever I play that tune (which is often as it is one of my all-time favorites), she always starts to bark, I guess she doesn't like that siren sound at all

I'm a huge fan of the song "Summertime" by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince which samples the Kool & the Gang song...

Yes, I used to like it, but deleted it when I learned he is a scientologist. I have zero tolerance towards sects...

I thought Will Smith had already left Scientology or at least was thinking about leaving them? Anyway, how do you know if other singers/rappers/musicians aren't in sects, too?fluffy_little_something wrote:Yes, I used to like it, but deleted it when I learned he is a scientologist. There are only a few people that I don't like because of their engagement in sects, Tom Cruise is one of them, he looks like Thetan itself, a brain-dead superman without any emotions...

Of course I don't know them all. But there are lists of famous scientologists. And as soon as I learn of a new artist, I put them on my boycott list.
I no longer listen to Isaac Hayes, either, even now after his death.

Yeah, Will Smith can be pretty scary...if he isn't at his Wild Wild West Show... (but I still like him despite Scientology)

Scientology IS scary, just like McKinsey etc.
Anyway, let's not tarnish that great original

seriously, tho...if you ONLY listened to music made by artists who supported your worldview...you'd probably be listening to very little music. unless someone's a murderer/rapist/child molester/hatemonger...enjoy the music. why deprive yourself of something great because the artist lives a lifestyle you wouldn't?
just a thought, of course. meanwhile, just checked out 'summer madness'. dope!!
